This is Part Two of Letting Go.
Summary:
It has been a year since Loki let go. Skadi had lost all hope of seeing her husband again, but then everything changes.
WRITTEN: SEPTEMBER 2020
Skadi became one of Frigga's matrons in order to keep some level of status after Loki's rule. Most of the kingdom had turned their backs on him including the healers. It took a lot of work, but after talking with multiple people, Skadi found out why Loki let go on the Bifrost Bridge, not that anyone other than herself, Thor, Odin, and Frigga knew he chose to fall.
She was deeply angered with Odin for what happened. She knew all Loki ever wanted was to please the man and when he tried it wasn't enough. As a parent, you are supposed to console your child when they screw up trying to please you, not push all the blame on them. She knew she could never speak her opinions either which made it all the harder to do her duties helping Frigga, but she pushed through.
Word had spread of Loki being on Earth, and Odin was sending Thor to Earth within the day. She had gone the last two times word of him was surrounding a planet. Both were false alarms. She couldn't put herself through all of that again, so she asked Frigga for the day off. Frigga granted her request, and Skadi was now in her and Loki's chambers, a place she hadn't slept in since he died. She had some wine in a glass and she was sitting on the bed reliving memories of her and Loki.
...
Loki smiled brightly at Skadi, "That dinner went surprisingly well."
"Your father seems very pleased that we are married. It may even be enough to win his favor," Skadi smiled as she began to take out her earrings.
"Why don't we go on a walk?" Loki suggested as he walked up behind her and placed a kid to her shoulder.
"Where would we go on this walk?" Skadi hummed as she tilted her head to the side.
Loki continued pressing small kisses up to her neck before he stopped and whispered against her skin, "I'm not sure. Maybe just around the castle."
"That would be nice," She said softly. Then the two walked out of their chambers hand in hand.
...
Skadi came into the room to find Loki silently crying on the foot of the bed. Her face immediately fell as she sat next to him and hugged him tightly. She pressed a soft kiss to Loki's hair as she held him close.
"I am so tired of not being good enough," Loki said quietly before letting out another nearly silent sob.
It broke Skadi's heart how hard he always tried to please his father, and how it never seemed to be enough if Thor was nearby.
"You're more than enough," Skadi said softly as she ran her fingers through his hair, "You are so much more."
...
Skadi woke up to see Loki staring at her on the other side of their bed which made her smile.
"Good morning, snowflake," He smiled as he brought a hand up to her face to move a strand of hair from her face.
"I love you," Skadi said quietly as she moved her head closer to him.
"I love you," Loki whispered before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
