I was born at 10:19pm, on the 14th March 2001. 17 minutes after Mia. 17 minutes older, she is, and she never stops going on about how this makes her more mature than me. We are Twin 1 and Twin 2. Like we came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
We were Baptised, but I don't really see myself as a true Catholic. I don't go to church. I don't read the Bible on a regular basis. I'm not sure I even believe in God. I think I trust Darwin's theory of Evolution. I personally prefer proof. But I kind of think there must be a capital-S Someone looking down on us. Anyway, enough religion malarkey...
Being twins and all, we were smaller than normal babies - about 4 and a half pounds each, but I was little bigger. Because I took all the nutrients. Mia has always been smaller than me. Like a little mouse. Now, she barely comes up to my eye level. I liked being taller. I felt really grown up, and people thought I was older than Mia. It certainly proved her wrong about being more mature.
We are not identical twins, we never were. Since birth, I had nearly a full head of hair. Whereas Mia was practically bald! I've always had darker hair than Mia, longer hair, curlier hair. I've also always had slightly darker skin, thinner lips, longer lashes, bigger feet, longer legs. From afar, we just look like best friends.
We were born in Swindon (we're British), and we have lived in this small, ever-growing town since. Yes, we've moved house a couple of times, but we have never left here. There would be too much to leave behind.
Both my parents clearly took advantage of having twins, dressing us up in matching Elle coats and baby pink Puma Suedes. Matching everything until we were old enough to make our own decisions and going through our phases. One minute my favourite colour was black (like my soul, Duh!). The next minute I was pleading my Dad for tickets to see a Barbie Princess movie, going all out with the matching dolls and bedspreads!
My most distant memory is when I was two years old. I know people say it's "impossible to remember babyhood", but technically, I was a toddler.
The memory was in Cyprus on holiday. Mia and I having our Fimbles teddies, wearing matching Winnie the Pooh t-shirts, having treasured moments with the family.
I know it sounds cheesy as hell, and I know we were in Cyprus. But, good times consist of the people you spend them with, not where you are...
