And then she awoke with a start, jolting upward in her hospital bed. Her covers had been moved off of her heated body due to the kicking in her sleep. She felt a cold sweat around her neck and legs.
Carol was breathless. She looked around the dark hospital room, fearful of her most recent nightmare. It was night time; she could see the light from the moon and stars from the window behind her. She suddenly slouched down, her hands cupping her face in them. She rubbed her eyes for a moment and once again scanned the room. This time, she noticed something she hadn't the first time. A peek of light blonde hair stood out against the dark walls of the room.
"Beth," she whisper-screamed, and then again. The petite blonde haired girl who'd fallen asleep while sitting against the wall facing Carol's bed carefully separated her eyelids, adjusting her position. When Beth realized her friend was awake, she immediately climbed to her feet and paced to Carol's side.
"Carol. You're burnin' up, are you okay?" Beth's voice was filled with worry as she kneeled next to the bed and rested a hand on Carol's arm.
"I had another dream," Carol answered, her voice shaky with concern. "I don't think their plan is going to work... At least not how they expected." Beth thought of the possibilities for a moment, then softly smiled, though Carol could find a look of doubt in her eyes.
"It has to work. It's all we got." The younger girl noted, then stood. "Are you feelin' alright, besides that? Do you need anything?"
"No, I'm fine. Thank you, Beth."
After that, both girls resumed their positions before the conversation - Beth lying against the wall and Carol in a light, uncomfortable sleep in her bed. It was the third time Carol had dreamt the same thing. Rick's plan was to make a deal - since he had three of the hospital's people, he'd trade them in for her and Beth. The problem was everyone in the hospital had heard of this plan and were thinking of any way to get out of it. That wasn't what scared Carol, though. It was the outcome of her dream.
Every time she fell asleep, she dreamt of Beth stabbing the leader of the hospital, Dawn, with scissors in a vain attempt to rid her of her role. Dawn always ended up shooting Beth, and the watching group had been devistated at the sight. She remembered Daryl carrying her out the doors of the hospital. Once the light of day came into view, Carol's dream was always over, and she awoke in a cold sweat.
Carol prayed that the trade, which was to take place the next day, was not how she invisioned it.
// AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know, this is a very short chapter, but it's the introduction, so I promise it'll be longer in chapter one. Vote for more. c: - C //
