One girl. Or better said, one woman. Was all it took to put a smile to Harry's face again. He was glad she came that night so he could escape his curse for a moment. He knew the curse would come back at the nights she wasn't there and he was okay with that. He trusted the young woman to come back and it worried him. He never trusted one out of his family this fast. He didn't know what to do with this new feeling of trust. I just have to see and wait. I already thought I would be doomed forever so I have nothing to lose. Harry thought while getting on his horse.
"She is late, Mystro. Let's go see where she is." Harry said to his horse riding into the direction Samantha went to yesterday morning.
He blamed this world for making a good man evil. In his eyes, this world was able to drive a good man mad and this world could turn a killer into a hero. He knew he wasn't a saint. He had a bad past and he didn't really believe in heaven anymore. But Harry also knew he had a second chance. He knew the chosen one could help him with that.
Harry shook his head, not wanting to think about it anymore. It gave him a headache and he couldn't use that. But even with thinking about other things didn't make the bad feeling go away.
Harry suddenly stopped his horse as he saw Samantha. But Samantha wasn't alone. While she was walking a little earlier she heard something behind her so she stopped and turned around. Coming face to face with a man with black eyes and a blueish skin tone.
"SAM! RUN!" Harry yelled at her. He knew what kind of creature it was and he didn't want it to come close to Samantha. He knew what it could do, even with the arrow in its leg that Samantha probably just shot at it.
Harry, being busy watching Samantha, didn't see the creature running towards him until he heard Samantha yell, "watch out!". She had fired another arrow towards the creature, hoping it wouldn't reach Harry. She didn't want to admit it to herself but she didn't want to lose Harry.
Harry saw the arrow and it began to glow a bright golden colour. He saw the arrow reach the creature right in the stomach. The creature didn't bleed. It didn't fall. It simply turned to dust as if it never existed. Well, she is full of surprises, Harry thought while Samantha watched it all with wide eyes and an open mouth.
"Come on. Jump on behind me." Harry told her when he reached her. She nodded before doing exactly as Harry said.
Harry turned Mystro around and pushed him in a steady canter to the meeting place. Harry felt Samantha sitting behind him and calmness fell over him as a warm blanket on a cold evening. He didn't want it. He didn't want Samantha to have such effect on him. He didn't want the feelings. But he also didn't want Samantha to leave. As much as he didn't want it, he needed her. And he knew it.
"Alright, first things first. What did you do there with that arrow?" Harry questioned Samantha as soon as they got settled comfortably.
"I really don't know I only thought about saving you and shoot the man and then when I shot, my arrow just turned gold and started glowing. And I have no idea how that could possible happened." She answered him honestly.
Harry shook his head and a small smile was threatening to show itself, "You're something special, you know? First finding me, then the necklace and now your arrow. what else do you have in store?".
He saw Samantha shrug and realized she probably knew nothing about being a chosen one. He wondered why her family never taught her about it. They should know about the magic that came with it. Knowing he should start to explain what he knew, he started telling her the story.
"You're from a family who have been the chosen ones for centuries now. All first born from your family were able to do unordinary stuff like magic. One of your 'powers' like you saw, is killing 'sinevita vivere'. Also called 'the lifeless living'. Only special trained hunters and chosen ones can do that stuff. So that's the story behind the arrow I guess. The necklace is something else. Well, not totally. The pendant with the tree and the star in the circle represents your bloodline. And protects you from getting hurt as someone put a spell on it. It gives you an invisible shield which keeps vampires and other creatures away from you. That's why I can't hug you if I'd try. "
It was quiet for a while and Harry could almost see the wheels spinning in Sam's head. He wondered if she would believe him or if she would run.
"But why was this 'lifeless living thing' able to see me, while everyone in the castle couldn't?" Samantha questioned, breaking the tense silence around them.
Harry couldn't help but feel a deep sadness overcoming him as he thought back to the past. Not wanting to let his guard down, he tilted his head down slightly to recover before looking at Samantha again. "It's a long story..." he hesitated but Samantha slightly nodded as sign he could go on, on his own speed.
"The night they changed me... It was the night before my wedding. In their 'team/group' they had a witch so they cursed me. Every night I need to relive my 'wedding' with a demon instead of a normal person. So the 'girl' you saw that day. It wasn't a girl. It was a faceless demon. So everyone you saw yesterday weren't real. they were just illusions. But when I saw you I felt something strange. I was able to step away from the demon and make my own way." Harry explained the long lines of his curse.
His vision was focussed on his hands at the end of the story so he didn't see Samantha taking off her necklace. He only felt a pair of arms wrap around him. Harry stared with big eyes and opened his mouth to speak but Samantha reacted faster, "Don't you dare say anything. I just know you needed the hug and I trust you.".
