"Listen here, you two."
Stopping, Magicpaw blinked and turned her head towards Birchfall and Icecloud. The brother and sister had stopped a few feet back. Magicpaw quickly noted that the two had anger flashing in their eyes, but Magicpaw wasn't good at reading others.
"What is it?" Stormpaw meowed, her head tilting as she watched her mentor.
A chill ran down her spine as the siblings glanced at each other. Then Icecloud stepped forward, her ears pinned back and her eyes slanted.
"You have four moons," her tone was sharp, voice sounding almost offended that she was speaking to them. "Keep up otherwise you'll be left behind."
It's like she doesn't expect us to keep up. Magicpaw narrowed her eyes, her fur felt hot now that Icecloud was exercising her opinion. But she stayed quiet. Beside her. Stormpaw shifted.
"It's your job to show us, right?" Stormpaw inquired innocently.
A growl forced its way out of Icecloud's throat. Magicpaw felt the resentment radiating off the white she-cat. Birchfall nudged his sister before his amber eyes moved to them.
"We will train you the best we can, use every resource you can," Birchfall announced, his demeanor quickly changing from acceptance to challenging. "We don't expect you to pass anyway, but good luck. Stormpaw, come with me."
In an instant, Magicpaw could feel herself consumed with rage.
How dare he! Magicpaw flattened her ears. And Icecloud too?
Stormpaw seemed to have picked up the message as her amber eyes narrowed. But, the light gray-and-silver cat moved to follow after. Magicpaw could see that her friend was tense as the two disappeared into the bushes.
"So," Magicpaw started, making Icecloud turn to her, "You think I won't pass?"
Icecloud's blue eyes narrowed. "Yes."
Magicpaw's mind spun as she began to think of a way to counter her and state her opinion. I will not let her put me down like this.
"I've been here for two days, I know some cats names," Magicpaw growled, "Brightheart can hunt and fight with one eye. Jayfeather knows that territory and he's blind."
Icecloud blinked, clearly caught off guard. But Magicpaw wasn't going to let this slide and she needed Icecloud to know it.
"I may have been what you call a kittypet, but I will prove to you that I can be a clan member. Isn't that what Daisy and Firestar were before they joined?"
"Daisy hasn't hunted a day in her life-"
"Yet she is a ThunderClan cat that has a family with your brother," Magicpaw hissed. "It's quite rude to speak of your family like that, huh?"
"Now, wait-"
"You have a job to do, so do it. I will go to Firestar if I need too."
Icecloud looked horrified, but she was clearly fuming now. The warrior then snorted before she turned, ears pinned back once more.
"Fine," she hissed. "Come now."
Watching the white she-cat pad away, Magicpaw felt a sudden rush of relief. Proud of herself, Magicpaw's tail raised as she followed her mentor.

Exploring the territory was a daunting task. Magicpaw, of course, knew the territory from the years of reading, but she didn't count on it being as big as it was.
