" Where is everyone ?" I asked as we slowly walked closer to the sports fields.
Greg stopped walking and I stopped behind him.
" The situation here is a bit complicated at the moment." He replied.
" You said you wanted to take me around to help me orient myself and relieve my stress about being here, right ?" I narrowed my eyes," Vague answers like that aren't helping me do either of those things."
He looked down at me, as if weighing his options before speaking to me," I didn't want my pack to be put in harm's way, so I sent them away for now." He said before clearing his throat and trying to avoid questions," Anyways, let's move on with –"
It wasn't unheard of for packs to have remote safe houses to be used when there is a conflict between packs, but he was obviously avoiding something, and that frustrated me.
" No, you don't get to change the topic like that. If you sent your entire pack 'away' to protect them from danger, doesn't that mean that you're putting me in danger by keeping me here ?" I press," You don't get to keep me in the dark about things that involve my wellbeing, I don't care what your reason is."
He chewed on his cheek as he looked down at me," You already met the danger I'm protecting them from." He finally relented.
I blinked," The Red Dawn ?"
He nodded.
" Are they that dangerous ?" I asked.
" If you knew anything about them, that wouldn't even be a question." He replied.
If that's his reaction, maybe that's why the Wild's pack warriors were summoned to the capital.
" I see." I say," Did you send your Delta with them ?"
" No, I –" He began before a look of shock overtook his features," No way." He muttered.
I followed his line of sight over the field to a figure walking in the distance," Who's that ?" I asked.
There's no way Greg would be this relaxed if that person was a threat, I thought to myself as I looked over Greg's tense features. Maybe 'relaxed' isn't the right word.
" My delta." He replied lowly before stepping forward and pointing at the person.
" Hold it right there Gareth!" Greg ordered from across the field.
Gareth. I thought to myself. I've heard that name before. Alec mentioned something about Raven covering for him and Gareth being missing for three days.
A man with long brown hair that faded to neon green froze.
" Come over here." Greg's tone was clipped.
The man seemed frozen in place as he looked over at us like a deer in headlights.
" Now." Greg's voice carried across the field, making the man suddenly jump before slowly turning his body towards us.
I looked up at Greg to see his eyes were golden before my eyes flickered back to the poor soul who was now making his way over to us.
As he approached, I also noticed his sleeve of tattoos that seemed to go beyond where the tee-shirt he had on covered. His eyes were a yellowish hue, and he had a gauge in his left ear. Once he came to a stop in front of Greg and me, I also noticed that he was a head taller than Greg, though he was slouching quite a bit, I'm sure he would've been more intimidating at his full height.
" Uh, hey alpha." He averted his eyes and scratched the back of his head," Welcome back."
" Is there a reason why you're avoiding looking at me ?" Greg asked pointedly.
