In love with his client

''an idea: what if a young woman is divorcing her awful husband and Jeffrey happens to be her divorce lawyer''

I sat in front of them and watched them give death stares to each other. I sat there and wondered how such a beautiful woman like Maria was ever married to that big of an asshole. I had done that every single day for a month, ever since she hired me as her divorce lawyer. It took us a while but her soon ex-husband finally agreed to giving her almost everything they owned together; the house, the car and the dog. All in all, it was him who was the bad sheep in their failed marriage that only lasted one year. I felt so bad for Maria, for the way Luke talked to her and treated her. I had no respect for men like him, for cheaters and assholes. My heart exploded with happiness when he finally agreed to sign the papers.

''There'' Luke threw the papers in my face. ''Are you fucking happy now?'' he looked at Maria who sat next to him with a smirk on her face.

''As happy as ever'' she said calmly, making his blood boil even harder.

''Are we done here? I don't want to be next to her any longer, thanks'' he looked at me with the same death stare as earlier.

''We are done. Thank you, mr. Miller'' I held a neutral face as I went to shake his hand. ''You may leave now if that's what you want''.

''Hell yeah. You've never been a good wife anyway'' he looked at Maria one more time before slamming the door behind him.

As soon as he left the room, Maria sighed relieved. ''Wow, finally'' she leaned back and smiled to herself. Her smile could win the whole entire world; I had never felt like that for any of my clients, but there was something about this young woman that simply made my heart skip a beat. I knew it was wrong, but if you saw her you'd understand.

''How can you let him speak to you like that?'' I laughed at his audacity.

''You know, it doesn't affect me at all anymore, I literally do not care one bit. I know I'm far from what he's told me, I've been nothing but good to him. My calmness makes him mad, as you've probably noticed. I'd only feed his ego more if I got mad at his words'' the smile on her lips never faded and as I listened to her sweet voice I continued admiring her beauty.

''That's good, I'm glad we've won. And you got the dog too'' I laughed. She was crazy about that dog.

''Hell yeah I got my baby, I'd be a mess without him'' there was a short moment of silence after that. ''So...thank you for everything. You've been so good and I'm so happy I hired you'' she got up and grabbed her purse before stretching out her right hand to shake mine.

''I'm happy you did. Congratulations and good luck with your new life'' I smiled at her as I shook her delicate hand. Her eyes didn't look away from mine even after our hands stopped touching each other and something told me that there was something more on her mind. ''Are you okay?'' I asked.

''Yeah, I...'' she said, but didn't continue. Instead, she leaned over my desk and gave me a peck on the lips, leaving me in shock. When I looked at her, she was as in shock as I was. ''Holy...'' she covered her mouth with one hand. ''I'm so sorry, I don't know what took over me. I'm so sorry'' her cheeks were bright red. My heart beat fast in my chest and all I wanted was to grab her and kiss her hard, but I had to stay professional. I couldn't do anything like that with my clients, it wasn't right, was it?

''It's okay'' I said as I looked down at my feet. ''It's just that you're my client and...''

''No, yeah, of course, I understand. I'll go now. Again, I apologize'' although she was embarrassed she still looked me in the eyes.

''Don't worry about it. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you'' I tried to stay professional, though my lips ached for her.

''Alright. Have a good day, Mr. Morgan''

''You too, Ms. Turner''.

Sitting on my favorite chair with a glass of whiskey in my hand later that night I couldn't stop thinking about her. It was around 9 pm and my brain was flooded with pictures of her smile, of her cute red cheeks, of her big, brown eyes. My lips still felt tingly when I thought about the short kiss she gave me and I was sure I was in love with her. I knew I was going to fall for her from the first moment she entered my office, from how much I wanted to punch that idiot she chose to marry one year ago, from how much I wanted to hug her when the divorce process would get rough.

''Fucking hell'' I said as I forcefully grabbed my phone and dialed her number without hesitation. I had to do something about it.

It rang three times before I heard her soft voice. ''Hello? Mr. Morgan?'' she seemed confused that I was calling her.

''Hi, did I wake you up?''.

''Not at all, I was just laying on my sofa, having wine and cuddling with my dog'' she sounded content and it made me smile. ''Is everything alright?''.

''Yes, everything's fine. I just...can't stop thinking about earlier'' I confessed before hearing her let out a small ''oh'', so I continued. ''After all, you're not my client anymore and I think..uhm, can I see you? Like, now?''.

''Uhm, are you sure?'' she asked, her voice so soft I wanted to scream.

''Yes. If that's okay with you. I need to see you''

''Okay. Uhm, do you want to come over?''

''I would love to, if it's not too big of a bother'' I smiled to myself, happy that she wanted to see me too. She gave me her address and I drove there after brushing my teeth and checking that I looked decent.

Knocking on the door I felt nervous, hands sweaty and heart going crazy. When she opened the door I felt like a teenager over again, stomach housing millions of butterflies. ''Hi'' she spoke as she stepped aside to let me in.

''Good evening'' I smiled at her as I took my jacket off.

''Do you want a glass of wine?'' she smiled sweetly as I followed her to the living room.

''Yes, thank you'' I said shortly as I watched her turn around to head towards the kitchen. ''Maria wait'' it felt like my heart was literally going to explode in my chest. She turned around and I pulled her towards me before I grabbed her face and kissed her. I couldn't wait anymore, I needed to feel her lips on mine again, to kiss her better, longer. She tasted like wine, her tongue wet and warm, heat radiating from her body.

I was crazy about her

I was crazy about her. In that moment we both forgot about the wine she was about to give me. It was like we were in a trance, and she led the way to her bedroom where we made delicious, absolutely wonderful love.
