Of all times to get lost and separated from my family, it just had to be the moment we go for a hike in an unfamiliar forest. Now, I've read plenty of stories online about times like this, and from what I hear it really isn't that fun, but oh well, what's been done has been done. I just walk aimlessly around the dark and damp forest, staring up at the trees as dew builds up on the leaves and falls onto my face, it's quite refreshing really. The forest is quite, and somewhat comfortable if I really think about it. Usually someone in this situation would be scared to death, cause ya know.. animals and serial killers. But really, I'm not too worried about that, I'm more concerned with how am I gonna be able to find food and clean water to drink if I don't catch up with my family soon.

In all honesty, they probably haven't even noticed my missing. I was pretty far behind them to behind with, taking pictures of the scenery and everything. They probably think I just stayed behind to get some shots, which is what I did, but I walked a bit past my boundaries and fell down a cliff side. Clique right? If only my knight and shinning armor had been there to catch me, and whisk me away into the sunset, but alas.. this is real life, and the only people who would be out here would be sweaty preteens and middle aged men going on their mid day jog. So now, here I am, muddy and scuffed up, with a school camera in one hand, hopes and dreams in the other, walking around a dim forest alone, with a look of boredom sprawled across my face.

As time went on it only grew darker, and the wind started to get colder. I concluded that I wouldn't be running into my family any time soon, so I sat my stuff down on a tree stump, and plopped down on the dirt pathway I had been following for what felt like hours at that point. My feet hurt, my legs ache, my head is pounding, and my arms feel like limp spaghetti noodles. Oh what I'd do for an Advil at this point. I pulled my thin jacket around my body to try and warm up even a little bit, pushing the hair that was matted to my forehead away and out of my line of sight. I never really noticed it, but the darker it gets, the creepier the sounds around me get. During the day, the sound of leaves crunching and moving around would be passed off as the wind or as another hiker around you.. but during the night, it makes you feel nervous.. anxious. The sound of heavy footsteps making you look around like a crazy lady looking for her glasses that are on her face.

Hearing all these sounds send shivers down my spine, making me jump to my feet, grab my things and go. I keep walking in the same direction I've been going all day, wanting to find some place to crash for the night. Things would be a lot easier if I had a tent, but life just likes to suck ass sometimes doesn't it. I hum softly as I fast walk down the dirt path, humming a soft melody to keep my nerves down and calm myself. Eventually I find myself at the entrance of a small little cave like structure, shrugging to myself as I shimmy my way into it. It's a tight fit but it would work for anyone in my position. I curl up in a ball, bringing my knees to my chest and letting out a soft sigh, relaxing my muscles.

I hear it.

The heavy breathing behind me.

My muscles tense up, my eyes shoot open.

The breathing is raspy, and scratchy.

I can feel their hot breath roll down my neck as they start to inch closer, my heartbeat going rapid.

"Smells.. nice.."
