"So what is this about, boss?", I feel a little tensed due to her closeness, I think the AC is off or I'm just naturally emitting small sweat beads.

"Imma smack your ass for being so forgetful about things."

As if you're not forgetting about anything.

"What was that, Lauren?"

Oh fuck, did I say that out loud?

"Nothing, nothing.", I disaffirmed before she suspects anything.

"Here we are. Come with me."

I stepped out of her car and we walked down on a beautiful marble patio adorned with winter plants placed in pots. I complimented the design on our way to her doorstep.

"Wow. You did this?"

"For sure, I did. I'm the only person here though."

"They're so beautiful, like seriously."

"Thank you then. Feel at home, Lauren. I'm just going to change for awhile wait for me here."

Y/N disappeared in a second and I was getting comfortable in her place by looking at everything. I started staring at her walls with nothing but a frame of her medals in the military and no picture frames hanging around. She keeps her home very neat and warm, her fireplace gives so much sleepy vibes. I feel like I could sleep here, imagining Y/N dozing off here on her beanbag is so cute. Staring at the fireplace, it gave me something.

Flashback

After a long shift in Carrollton Sacred Heart Hospital, I was about to head home when the ambulance siren echoed inside the emergency room. I am awfully elated and before I could step out of the hospital, the head nurse ran towards me.

Oh hell no.

"Dr. Jauregui...", we're not that close but I decided to hear her out.

"Yes?"

"We need your help."

"My 36-hour shift just ended and I don't have the energy to work for more. Where are the others?"

"The surgery team isn't around and there is no one else here but you."

"For Pete's sake! Okay, I'll help. What do we know about the patient so far?"

"She was involved in a car incident, has a dislocated shoulder, having a severe breathing problem because of the impact, the airbag didn't save her from the pain of the crash."

"The surgery team should be here, call them. I would be incharge of the patient for now not until one of the other surgeons arrives."

"Should I bring you an assistant?"

"No, none from the nurses."

"Okay.", was all that I received from the head nurse before I went inside to see the patient. I've always known she wouldn't listen to me, I am a doctor but usually the nurses know more about these situations so I believe she'd send nurses in the operating room even if I don't want anyone there.

With the strength that is left of my body, some of the nurses helped me with the equipments needed in the operation. I sanitized myself before I was able to wear my suit then we proceeded.

I took a good look on her shattered upper body, I was able to open a part of her shoulder and asked for a nurse's help to reach out for the pieces of glass that pierced her flesh.
