Not edited yet but enjoyDays went by...
Weeks went by....
Months went by...I moved to a higher level in class. I made friends in the faculty. I joined different after school clubs , I skipped church on days I could. I stopped cleaning the church with an excuse that "School di hectic" School is hectic but one thing "My love for My Cheta"
He still gave me butterflies every Sunday I managed to go to church.
" Ah Kamsi, we did not see you on Saturday oh" he would say holding my hands longer.
"Yes Father, school di hectic" I would reply and wait for the butterflies to settle before I leave.
The kind of butterflies he gave me where the ones that automatically turned me to a klutz, I would trip when he called me and my legs would get weak when he touched me."Kamsi?....."
"Kamsi?......" Dami called tapping me.
"Hmmh"I reply turning to face him.
"You spaced out on me" he said shaking his oval hair.
"You weren't talking to me sef" I defended myself now fully facing th1e chocolate cream guy.
"I was asking you for legal system logbook"
"I have told you to go and get your books at the bookstore and leave me alone" I tease him pulling out the book from my bag.
" Not all of us have father's who are judges and can afford our textbooks immediately"he snatches the book from my hand before I could take it back.
"Says the son of a Senator, Oluwadamilare Falana leave me alone ooh" I said trying to turn back to my normal position
"Isn't it too later for you to tell me to leave you?" He says reminding me of how we met.
____-----+++____
I was nursing my torn shoes at the pavement near the Mother Justice statue when I heard voices coming out of the moot court. I looked only to see a group of guys coming towards me, well they were walking to the main class. "where is Uncle Martins?" I murmur hoping that the guys would pass and not see me. So far I had succeed in being invisible to my course mates, the only time attention was given to me was when they called attendance in class and my surname was mentioned. The guys came closer and I recognized them as the backbenchers of the class, the guys that managed to always sneak into class while the class was on and the first to leave once the class was over. The Three were a funny duo, each representing the 3 main tribes of Nigeria. The tall fair one with his beads groomed in a stylish way is Igbo "Jideofor Nnanna" while the dark average guy with his head filled with hairs is "Jamal Hadi" while the one who was always in the middle and obviously their ring leader, chocolate tall and obviously handsome is " Oluwadamilare Falana" and he was the first to stop in front of me, I pretended not to notice him as he signaled at the guys to continue without him. I picked my call immediately Uncle Martins ID flashed on the screen.
"Hello Uncle" I had said immediately but then I was hit with a big news. My dad had sent him to pick up a client from the airport so I needed to cab my way back home.
"Yes Sir" I hissed ,more at my torn shoes than at him"Hello?"Dami said waving at my face.
"Yes?" I snapped out of anger for the stress I was going to face.
" Wow!!!" He said "Sorry Frozen" he apologized sarcastically.
"Nooo, I'm the one to apologise" I say stand up to face him
"I'm sorry, my shoe just cut and my driver wouldn't be here to pick me up. I'm just pissed"
"I could take you home, my friends and I were just going to return our library cards so we can go home" he offered.
"It's fine, I will get a cab" I decline.
"A cab would take 15mintues to get here " he said reminding me of how far the faculty was from the main gate.
"I can wait" I say ordering a taxi.
"Then I will wait for your taxi before I go".....
----------------------
"Yeah I should have told you to leave me then" I said facing the black board.
"I'm not comfortable here " Jide said
"You are never comfortable sitting in front" Jamal reply him before any of us could.
"That is not the front, this is the front" I say pointing to where I was sitting.
", this you people's bestie thing is toxic for me" he murmurs before opening the textbook in front of him.
" Why don't I pay for lunch today?" I chip in trying to make them happy.
Ever since Dami and I started talking, things have been different. I now had friends in school, I had people to have lunch with and above all, I had 3 guys to disturb till I was tired. And once in a while I dragged them to the front of the class for lecturers.
"I will have Spaghetti, eggs and meatballs with pure heaven" Jamal said, among the boys although he always ate the biggest share of food and always joked with his workout he was the slimiest of them all.
"Who is going to pay for that one?" I ask turning to face the boys.
"You na" Jamal say smiling at me.
"It's just meat pie you people will have oh" I inform them
"Then don't call it lunch, just say I'm taking you guys for snacks" Jide say snapping out of his moodiness "Maka na, me? I will have rice, Jellof, and fried mixed with salad and meatballs with malt " he added.
"Hiaaaa!!!!" Dami exclaim narrowing his eyes at his friends.
"She said meat pie and so shall it be " he says supporting me.
Maybe somehow, I had done something amazing in my past life to have Dami as a friend. Ever since Dami walked into my life, he has been that supportive friend that no matter what happened had your back. We quarrel and fight to the extent that we block each other on social media but we always come back. If I was at a gun point and I was asked to call someone and if the person picks then I will be let go but if the person doesn't pick then I'm dead , I know that the first person I would call would be him.
