Falling in Love All Over Again

Chapter 6

A week had passed, and Anna Bates had been adjusting to her new job and life fast. She enjoyed all the people she came to know especially her husband. She found herself blushing when he touched her hand or brushed past her. Anna had not kissed him yet or anything of that nature. Bates decided to let her fall in love with him again. His embraces at the hospital had given her a warmth and security. The way he had been treating her enchanted her. Every time his hand touched hers, her heart stopped. One night Anna dreamt about him giving her food on a tray when she had a cold years ago. She walked into his room that night to tell him, if he was awake. To her advantage, he was reading. "I had the most wonderful dream. I think it might be a memory," she said sitting at the foot of the bed. She told him about the dream, and he confirmed that it was a memory.
"Would you like me to read to you? It's one of your favourites. Jane Eyre."
"That does sound nice." she replied and snuggled in next to him. He put his arm around her and began to read from the beginning. She loved leaning against him as he read. Every day made her fall more in love with him. Bates loved having Anna at his side again. He had noticed the way she had been blushing at his touch for the past week. He had been falling in love with her again too. When he had to speak during the past week, he was nervous and unsure of what to say. "It seems like a good story so far," she said after the first chapter,"Maybe we could stop there for tonight."
"Of course. You must be tired." he said and closed the book. Then he turned to her, and he was caught in her gaze. He wanted to lean in and kiss her, but he was afraid that it might be too soon. To his surprise, she leaned in and kissed him. To her it was like a first kiss. To him it was the first kiss that he had from her in a long time. Then, she looked at him and told him good night. She went back to her room to sleep. Anna felt all happy and excited. She slept with a bright smile on her face. Bates was relieved that she was coming back to him. He was able to sleep peacefully.
