Chapter 5

Louis’ POV

I woke up to Maura stirring next to me. She had moved in her sleep to face me.  Her brown hair was splayed across the pillow.  It was fanned out and kind of crazy.  I smiled at the sight of her peaceful face.  Her lips were set slightly apart.  When she turned one of her hands had landed right on my chest.  I could feel my heart start to accelerate.  It was only 6 in the morning, we planned on getting up at 8, so that we could work on their X Factor auditions in a few days.

I’d asked Maura why her mom let her even audition.  She said that she didn’t tell her.  I thought that was weird considering she’d have to film it in the fall here in California.  She said that she had to take the risk of her mom forcing her home.  I had to do something.  I couldn’t let her leave, and I couldn’t let her mom ruin her life.  I could almost see the light bulb flash over my head as the idea struck me.  I moved silently over to Maura’s purse.  She moved a little but didn’t wake up.  I fished around until I found her phone.  I looked through her contacts until I found her mom’s number.  Then I picked up the hotel phone and called it.

“Hello.” A gruff voice came from the other end.

“Yes,” I said in my best American accent, “this is Mr. Rawls from the Boarding School for Undisciplined Teens in California.  Your daughter has gotten some bad reviews from her school in Missouri and we were wondering since we found out that she was already here anyway if you would want us to take her off your hands.

“How much will this ‘school’ cost?” She replied.  Wow, she didn’t even ask about her daughter’s safety or well being.  What a great mother.

“It won’t cost you a dime ma’am.  It will be our pleasure to make sure you have a stress free life.”

“And, I won’t ever have to see her again.” Ouch, even I winced at that.

“No you will never have to see her again.  It will go to her senior year, and from there she can decide whether or not to go to a college in California.”

“Then sure whatever, she ran away from home, I could care less whether or not that school even exists.  Just as long as I don’t have to deal with that brat ever again.”

“Thank you ma’am.”

“No, no, thank you.” She said before hanging up.  I shook my head and crawled back on the bed with Maura.

“Louis?” She said sleepily.  Her eyes fluttered open, big, and chocolate brown.

            “I’m here baby.”

            “Were you talking to someone?”

“I was just insuring my time with you.”

“What do you mean?” She said suddenly more awake.

“That was your mom.  I told her that you were transferring to a free boarding school.”

“You did… Wh-what did she say?”

“She said that it was fine.”

“Just like that? She didn’t really care…”

            “I’m sorry Maura.”

“What am I going to do now though? I need an education!” Suddenly she was on her feet.

“Maura look there are plenty of schools you can transfer to here.”
