Julian Alfred Pankratz learned at a young age that soulmates were pointless. Though the schools taught the idea as well as how important finding one's soulmate was, most families frowned upon the thought. Especially families of nobility.

Of course, Julian asked his father about it anyway. He wondered if someone would love him throughout his lifetime, no matter who he turned out to be. But his question earned a slap to the cheek, and a long lecture on how soulmates wouldn't help when Julian took his father's spot.

Listening to lectures as such never fully drilled into Julian's brain. He was a lover, and that meant soulmates was an idea he quite liked, thank you very much. No matter what his father or any other adult said, Julian made it one of his top priorities to find his soulmate.

So, after turning the ripe age of 18, Julian left his home in search of his soulmate. Instead of keeping his noble name, Jaskier cloaked over Julian Alfred Pankratz, and the nobility name was long forgotten. It was one for the road, as Jul- Jaskier chose to become a poet and bard, traveling the country to bring his and someone else's fate together.

The strange thing about soulmates that Jaskier always struck as odd was the way they were to discover one another. It seemed a tad strange, and would most likely get one's arse kicked if you got it wrong.

It was also super fucking cliche, something you would find in a children's book. The bond would begin with a simple touch, whether it be a brush of skin, or a poke. There would be a hint of a warm feeling in your chest, once more, super cliche. First stage requires a bit of touch afterward, or both could get sick. Next stage would start up from a kiss, again, super fucking cliche. There would need more touch from before as well as many embraces afterward. Very few went through with the final stage, as most deals with soulmates didn't work out. Sexual intercourse brought the soulmates fully together, and the add-ons that came with the last stage would be greatly needed. There would also be mind-reading, which most people also didn't think too kindly of.

Jaskier always wondered what it would be like sharing his mind with someone else. People constantly complained about his constant babbling, so having someone become roommates with his mind... there would be even more words exchanged. His mind never rested, there was always something going on inside it.

Back to the road.

Coin wasn't exactly easy to recieve. There were most towns and taverns that did not appreciate his art or voice. His usual crowd were those who didn't want to hear any type of music, they were in the tavern to drink, and that was that. But sometimes, people wanted to hear a voice in trying times, or they were all bored.

Or he managed to piss them off in another way: Sharing nights with a man's wife, a parents' son or daughter. That always ended well. It was actually the way he tried to figure out if they were his soulmate...

NOW, he didn't mean to always bed the person. SOMETIMES, people got the wrong idea... or he got too handsy. It would be a brush of the hand, either or accident or on purpose, and maybe it was his charms that got the best of the person.

Of course, a few didn't end in someone screaming bloody murder towards him. That was usually when the wife, daughter, or son was either with someone, or their parents freaked over a traveler bedding their son or daughter then leaving. Usually, it turned out to be angry parents or loved ones. How was Jaskier to know anyway? They didn't exactly talk about their family or spouse. Though he could've asked, that would've made things better.

Finding his soulmate on the road seemed like quite the idea before he left Oxenfurt, but now... as difficult as it is to find the right person and right town... Jaskier isn't sure what to make of it anymore.

Maybe he just wasn't meant to find them.
