Lady Lesso POV:
We have a new reader this year. August Sader, the history professor, had claimed that readers were an important part of our world. In my opinion, Readers are unnecessary and always need explaining. I have always believed that our world would be better off without readers. However August had said that this reader would change the course of the world for Evil. The one who would turn things around. "Sophie of the Woods Beyond" Malice Tower, Room 66. I scoffed. Any student with the simple name of Sophie was definitely not a villain let alone the one who ends Evil's losing streak. I think that this is one of August Sader's misconceptions that the rest of the teachers have foolishly believed.
Hundreds of new students enter the Foyer. I groan, picturing the sight of it. Excited, blood thirsty first years thinking that the Storian will write their tale, they will conquer Evil and turn Evil around from its losing streak. But it all ends in the same way, they die. All tales ended this way for two hundred years.
I'm in my office on top of the Mischief Tower, sitting at my desk thinking of all the new students. The tall dark oak bookcase consumes an entire wall, most of the books with titles like Evil Punishments and Curses and Spells. My desk was in the middle of the room facing the door, neat stacks of paper and pens in holders on top. The door to my bedroom was shut and there were only two windows, both of which faced the School of Good. I stare out the window. The Tower I first see is the Charity Tower. My best friend and fellow Dean Clarissa's Dovey's Office was in that Tower.
Wanting to pay a visit, I push open the Black Marble Door. I go down the Mischief Tower and across the Halfway Bridge. My purple, sharp-shouldered gown trails elegantly behind me. My black stiletto heels clicking against the floor. The School of Good was filled with pinks, blues, golds and whites. Coming from the dark, black School of Evil the bright colors blinded my eyes the moment I walked into the castle. Going up the spiral staircase to Clarissa Dovey's Office. I hear the sounds of students piling into the Foyer. All of them are excited to be at the School for Good. I knock on the White Marbled door of the Dean Of Good's Office.
"Come in!" A voice calls.
I enter and see a silver haired, middle aged woman at one end of the room. She was wearing a green, beetle winged gown. A white bookcase was on one side of the room, the desk on the other side with the door right in between. The door to her bedroom was open revealing a white bed with a white blanket, all neat and clean.
"Hello Clarissa." I say.
She looks up. The soft, comforting face of Clarissa Dovey makes me beam inside.
"Hello Lady Lesso." She says putting down her pen. "Pleasure to see you. What do I owe the pleasure of seeing you?"
"Let's talk." I respond, wanting to spend time with my Best Friend.
We walk together all over the school, talking about new and old students, lesson plans, teachers and so on. We were wandering around the Gallery of Good, when Clarissa says,
"The more Good wins, the more the students stopped caring about lessons."
"He's tampering with the tales Clarissa." I say, on the subject of Good's wins.
"The school master can't control the storian, Lady Lesso," Clarissa returned.
"He's on your side and you know it." I seethed.
"He's not on anyone's side-" Clarissa said, stopping short.
I notice and stop with her. I followed her gaze to the last painting in the gallery. It was August Sader's, August was a seer, but I think that his predictions were nonsense.
"I see you've welcomed another of Professor Sader's delusions," I say glaring at the painting.
"It is his gallery," Clarissa sighs.
My eyes flash, magically tearing August' painting off the wall and placing it behind a glass case. I don't believe in August Sader's conceptions and Clarissa along with all other members of Faculty know as well.
"This is why they're not in your school's gallery." Clarissa says eyeing the painting on the ground.
"Anyone who believes the Reader Prophecy is a fool." I hiss. "Including the School Master."
"A School Master must protect the balance." Clarrisa says gently. "He sees Readers as part of the balance. Even if you and I cannot understand."
"Balance!" I scoff. "Then why hasn't Evil won a tale since he took over? Why hasn't Evil defeated Good in two hundred years?"
"Perhaps my students are just better educated," Clarrisa says calmly.
I walk away angrily, a scowl attached to my face. Clarissa moves the painting back to its place and hurries after me.
"Maybe your new reader will prove you wrong," She says, trying to spark some sort of hope in me.
I snorted. "I hear she wears pink." I say.
Then we left our separate ways. I head back up to my office in the Evil Castle. Clarissa wouldn't understand my frustration no matter how hard she tries to. Her students have won for two hundred years. They were all living happily ever after while all Evil ended up defeated. I can't help but feel resentment towards the School Master. It was obvious He was the Good Brother. Nobody could say otherwise.
