Clarissa Dovey POV:
After all the teachers disperse, I take Lady Lesso to my office. Sitting quietly in my Office, I take care of the gash on her cheek. I use a cloth to stop the blood and clean it, and use my wand to seal the wound, leaving a thin scar.
"Here." I say handing Lady Lesso a hand mirror .
She looks in the mirror and traces the scar.
"That will heal with time." I assure her.
Lady Lesso places the mirror down on my desk.
"The Tale." She says looking at me. "I think it's about the Readers."
"That. That can't be." I say, stepping back.
"Why not? The School Master said it was an unexpected one." Lady Lesso returns, her blank facial expression conveying that she was thinking.
I don't have anything to say back. The thought at first seemed impossible, but it could be true. Two best friends, one good, the other evil. That wasn't unexpected, that was impossible. I freeze. Two best friends, one good, the other Evil. It sounded so familiar. I looked at Lady Lesso, the realization sparks within me. It wasn't impossible because Lady Lesso and I were an example.
"I have to go." Lady Lesso says, standing up. "But thank you for the care."
I nod. I hear the sound of her Stiletto heels clinking against the floor as she leaves my office and goes into the hallway. Soon the sound dies down and I'm alone in my Office. I stare at the chair Lady Lesso was just sitting in. I don't want to do any work, even though there are still papers to go through. I have been teaching at The School for Good and Evil for many years but none of them have been quite like this one. There is so much going on and we still have the Trial by Tale, Circus of Talents, and the Snow Ball. I snap out of my trance. I still had to make hundreds of invitations to the Snow Ball. I rush to my desk. With a swish of my wand, paper, pens and scissors come out of the drawers and pile on top of my desk. I get to work, needing to get the invitations out by the next morning. At times like this, I wish that I was back to being a Fairy Godmother, answering calls to help people. But I know, I won't last out there, because I always found a way back to this School. It's almost sunrise when I finish all the invitations. I send fairies to place the invitations under the Students' room doors. I'm exhausted, my bun is loose and my sliver hair is coming out of the bun. Before I go to bed, I think about Lady Lesso's suspicion. What would happen between the two girls at this school? Will I be able to keep all my students safe?
The next morning the towers and classrooms are buzzing with excitement. The students have gotten their invitations that morning. The Girls were talking about which Everboy they wanted to go to the Ball with, and the Boys were talking about who they were going to pick. Even many of the teachers like Emma Anemone and Pollux have changed their lessons to be Snow Ball oriented. As I walk around the School I see the beaming faces of the students around me. At the sight of my joyful pupils, I smile, feeling the same excitement that they do.
I'm staring out the window at the students eating lunch outside. I hear a fast paced clicking sound from outside my office. A few moments later, Lady Lesso barges into the room, closing the door on the tail of her dress.
"Oh, Goodness sakes." She says, realizing that her dress is caught in the door.
She pulls it out.
"What's going on Lesso?" I ask, slightly concerned at how flustered she seemed.
Lady Lesso drops the stack of paper in her arms onto my desk, and I get a glimpse of her cheek. The scar had disappeared. I know she had tampered with it. Scars don't heal that quickly.
"The beast in the Doom Room is gone." She says. "I have to find a new torturer."
Lady Lesso sits on top of my desk wearing frustrated frowns. I go back to staring at the window while Lady Lesso rambles on angrily. I see an emerald green eyed, short blonde haired girl. I almost don't recognize Sophie with short hair. The other students are staring and snickering at seeing Sophie without her long blonde locks.
"Clarissa, what is it?" Lady Lesso asks, noticing my shocked expression.
"Sophie." I reply.
Lady Lesso stands next to me at the window trying to look for the Reader. When she finally finds Sophie, she gasps.
"What went on in the Doom Room?" I ask her.
"The Doom Room punishes the students by beating them until the beast finds the Never's weak spot." Lady Lesso explains. "But now that's not the case because the Beast is missing!"
A scowl reappears on her face, clearly not being able to move on from the situation.
"Lesso, I have a suggestion." I say even though I know she's not going to like it.
"As long as it doesn't have anything to do with forgiving." says Lady Lesso.
I purse my lips, Forgiving was my suggestion. Lady Lesso looks at me.
"It did, didn't it?" She groans. "Now I have to find a new torturer, l have classes to teach, and control behaviour without the consequence of the Doom Room."
She leans her head against the wall and looks up at the ceiling.
"How do you do it, Clarissa?" She adds.
I don't answer, I don't need to. Lady Lesso knows what I'm going to say.
I'm Good, I Forgive.
