Candy’s Grandma sat in her rocking chair while Candy sat in front of her on the floor. This is where I would always sit wherever Grandma told me her stories about how she found crispy honey apples in a forest long ago or how she went swimming in the crystal blue water with fishes. “Does Niji want to talk first?” Grandma still held my hand.

“Niji..” I remember what Ichigo had said. “I’m sure everything will be fine, I’m practically part of your family, remember? I’m sure your Grandma will be fine if you live with me.”

“Grandma, I…” I gulped and embraced for a strong impact, “...I want to move out.”

Her eyes widened, “Where does NIji want to move to?”

“I wanna move in with Ichigo.” I looked down to the ground, “Ichigo made a promise to me at the old animal shop that we would move in together… and I want to fulfill that promise!” I look up at her with tears in my eyes, why am I crying? I place my forehead on her knee, “please don’t be upset at me… please don’t be angry…” I weeped.

“Niji…” Candy’s Grandma placed her other free hand on top of his head, “My Niji has nothing to be afraid about with his Grandma, Niji is a good boy, don’t cry, no crying.” she lifted up his face and wiped the tears from Candy’s face, “Why does Niji cry?”

“I don’t want to upset Grandma when I leave…” Candy choked, “Niji doesn’t want Grandma to be upset like Mom.”

“Niji,” She said firmly, “You’re Mother is who she is and I can’t control that, but your Grandma will never be like your Mom, ok?” she hugged him, “Grandma will always love and take care of her Niji, because Niji is the world to her.”

Candy sniffed and hugged his grandma back, “So Grandma won’t be upset?”

“Grandma isn’t upset, Grandma is just going to be a little lonely, but don’t you worry.” a buzzing noise went off, “Grandma’s cake is done, is Niji still hungry?”

Candy sniffed, getting the sweet aroma from the cake that begged to be taken out of the oven; “Yes, Niji wants to eat.”

The next morning Candy was welcomed by the sight of Ichigo by his front door. “Ichigo?”

“Good morning, Candy.” he smiled

“Ichigo,” Candy’s Grandma called to him, “come here, Grandma can’t walk as much as she used to.”

Ichigo quickly walked up to her, “yes, Grandma?” with dead silence, she handed him a pocket full of money.

“Grandma?!” Candy exclaimed while Ichigo flinched

“You take good care of my Niji, ok?” she looked at him firmly in the eyes

He nodded, “I promise I’ll take care of NIji, Grandma.”

“Good.” Candy’s Grandma placed her hands outside of Ichigo’s hands making sure his hands were firm on the money, “Niji.” Candy turned towards his Grandma. “Come here.” Candy kneeled down to be welcomed by a warm embracing hug, “be a good boy for Grandma, ok?”

Candy hugged tightly onto his Grandma, “I will.” Candy’s Grandma then broke the hug and bid him farewell with only one tear coming from her eye while Ichigo and Candy went off to school. “I wish you the best of luck, Kurīmu.” She entered her house slowly closing the door. “My Niji still has a long way to go.”
