She stood on the platform gazing at the Hogwarts Express, her father's black robe brushing against her arm. She had been looking forward to this day for almost a year, but now that she was here, on the crowded platform of 9 ¾, she felt incredibly intimidated by the sheer amount of students boarding the train. She didn't know a single person boarding that train, something she hadn't anticipated as she had excitedly packed her belongings the previous day. But she had to get on the train, so she attempted to put on a brave face and faced her father, who was watching her expectantly.
"Goodbye, dad." she said, looking up at her father with his long hooked nose peering down at her anxious smile.
Severus Snape nodded down at her with only the faintest trace of a smile on his face. "I expect the train will be departing any second. You must get on now." He said, giving her a little push in the direction of the train. Her suitcase was already loaded on board, so all she had on her person was a small bag containing a book and her robes.
"See you at dinner." She smiled up at her father and began walking to the train. She hadn't gone far when she abruptly turned around and ran back, wrapping her arms around her fathers waist. He patted her on the back, giving her a quick squeeze as he looked around at the platform to see if anyone was watching them. Aurora removed herself from her fathers waist and without even a glance back, she rushed onto the train.
Once she was on the big red steam engine she stopped and took a deep breath before looking for a compartment that had no occupants. It wasn't long until she found one and she sat her bag down while sitting down by the window. She scanned the platform for her father and spotted him in the same place she had left him, not a single emotion on his face. Once he spotted her in the window he gave a brief wave and briskly walked away, cloak billowing behind him as he made his way to the exit.
She sat back and sighed. Her father hardly ever showed any emotion anymore, certainly not out in public. Not after what had happened to her mother last year. He had never been the same since. Neither had she arguably.
But Aurora knew how to read her father, the fact that he had come to see her off meant a lot.
It wasn't long before the train began to move out of the station and towards Hogwarts, so she decided to settle down with a book, losing herself in the world of faeries, magic and trolls. A while had gone by when the compartment door abruptly slid open, startling her out of her reading. A young girl about her age stood in the doorway with big bushy hair, buck teeth and possibly the cutest face Aurora had seen.
"Excuse me, but have you seen a toad? A boy called Neville's lost one." The girl asked, glancing around the compartment, presumably looking for the toad.
"No, I haven't seen one. Sorry." She replied. The girl didn't seem to mind or notice the fact she had barely spoken above a whisper. She nodded and was about to leave when her eyes drifted to the book in Aurora's hands.
"Oh, you're reading?" Her voice, now excited as she sat down across from her. "What book is that?"
Aurora perked up at this, glad that the cute girl was staying.
"Oh, it's a muggle fairy tale. It's got magic in it, but its different from the magic we can do. It's really interesting." She dared a look up at the brown haired girl as she had so far been watching the compartment floor while nervously fiddling with the book pages. "Do you like to read?"
"Oh, certainly. I spend most of my time reading. I've gotten in trouble for it a lot in school actually, but I don't mind. I'm learning something either way, aren't I? " The girl she had yet to know the name of said. She was watching her excitedly as she continued on. " I'm assuming you enjoy reading as well?" Aurora nodded and smiled shyly. "Very much so."
