When I opened my eyes the first thing, I see is blackness, my alarm has not gone off yet. I turn onto my side with my back facing my clock hoping that I could get in a few more minutes of sleep before I had to get up and start my boring at school. I closed my eyes and waited for sleep to come. But it did not, however soon enough my alarm finally sounded forcing me to sit up. I sat in the dark for a minute before I reached over a turn on the lamp sitting on my nightstand that was only bright enough to illuminate a small part of my room.

I get off my bed and head towards the light switch by the door. Once the light is on, I see my bedroom in all of it glory. The purple walls that had lilies painted on them looked back at me and my bed with its black and white comforter that was disheveled from my restless night. I have not been sleeping very well lately, I have been dreaming about my mom. I hope that where every she is that she is okay. I pull my thought back to getting ready for the day I walk towards the closet on the far side of my room. I grab a dark blue pair of jeans and a black tank top, once I have those on, I put on a gray and purple sweatshirt that match my necklace. The wolf pendent sits perfectly in the middle of my chest when I looked in the mirror hanging next to the closest. My long wavy brown hair was looking rather messy, but I don't feel like fixing it and my blue stood out against the dark circles under my eyes.

"Okay V. You got this." I said to myself debating if I really need a high school education. Being a senior does help a little, so far, it's been a pretty easy year.

"Vanessa! Sam! Time for breakfast." I heard my dad call from downstairs.

"I'm coming." I replied. I took one last look at myself in the mirror before I started for the door to my bedroom. Just as I open my door my I see my sister, Sam, her dirty blonde hair was pulled up into a ponytail. And her hazel eyes looked at me with nothing but pure hatred. My sister and I both being adopted have not made the bonding easy. For some reason she hates me, and I do not know why.

"Freak." Sam whispered under her breath as she walks past my door. That was the first time she had said anything to me in weeks. So, I am counting it as progress. I stepped out of my room and fell in step behind Sam heading to the direction of the stairs. After a moment I am downstairs walking pass the living room heading straight for the kitchen where I see my dads making breakfast together humming some silly tune. The pale white walls of the kitchen are kind of calming. From the smell in the air I can tell they are making eggs, bacon, and pancakes. My dad (Tom) is making the eggs while Pop's (James) is finishing up one last pancake.

"Yum, eggs and bacon." I said dropping down onto a stool in front of the kitchen island. While I took a seat, I noticed that Sam walk right past all of us and headed out the back door. My dads looked at each other and shared a look. But they keep moving along finishing making breakfast. They placed a plate in front of me and start piling food on it. I hate to admit it but being half wolf makes me hungry most of the time and have big portions for my meals help.

"So, anything fun going on today at school?" Asked dad, moving on to make my lunch for the day. I remember the day I meet my new parents like it was yesterday, my mom and I got into the car one morning and headed in a direction I did not recognized. I was ten years old at the time and when we pulled up to this house, they welcomed me with open arms saying I was theirs and that they loved me. I feel their love every day.

"Nah, just the usually." I said putting a piece of bacon in my mouth. I swallowed the food in my mouth and continued. "But lately I have this feeling that someone is watching me." I looked up and saw the faces that they were making told me that they knew something. But the faces the made faded too fast for me to make a comment, so I decided to let it go for now.

"It probably nothing. Just the addition of more patrols is making everyone skittish." Dad was right, Governor Bronson had been adding even more rounds patrol to find mix-bloods.

"Yeah, your right." I said with a fake smile. I honestly do not think that it the extra patrols that is making me jumpy, but I do not want to worry them any more than need. Just as I finished my meal the backdoor open revealing a six-foot boy with black hair and striking blue eyes.

"Hey Will. Give me a minute I need to go grab my stuff" I said standing up. I pushed in my chair and started heading for living room where my bag lays from the night before.

"No problem, I'll grab a snack for the rode." Will replied picking up a pancake and shoving the whole thing in his mouth. I rolled my eyes and fetched my bag. Once I returned, I pulled Will by his arm forcing him to follow me out. I called out a quick bye to dads and headed to school. Our high school wasn't too far away so Will and I walked there. On the way we talked about many different things. While we walked along the streets, I noticed several officers pass us on there newly added patrols.

"There is a lot of patrols out lately." I said watching the men and women in uniform walk by.

"Yeah. I heard that there may be a curfew add as well." Will keep looking forward. But I feel his eyes looking sideways at the uniforms that past us by. I opened my mouth to say something when I felt a muscly arm wrap around my shoulders.

"Heyy." A familiar voice said in my ear.

"Oh, hey Jeremy." I said turning to look at the owner of the arm. Jeremy's dark skin and hair makes him super attractive. Too bad he's gay because I have a feeling he would be a lady killer.

"So, how are my two of my favorite humans doing today?" Jeremy smile was infectious, after seeing it I can't help but smile too.

"I'm fine." Will said looking over his shoulder where Jeremy was still hanging on me. Will move slightly closer to me, then removed Jeremy's arm.

"I'm okay." I said laugh at Jeremy who was now making faces at Will. Which in turned made Will roll his eyes. The tree of us have been friend for years now. I've known Will since elementary school and Jeremy joined the trio about seventh grade. And ever since we have been inseparable like the three musketeers.

"So, what were the two of you talking about?" Jeremy asked as he moved to walk next me, placing me in the middle of them.

"Nothing much." Will answered before I could even think of a response.

"Yeah..." I said echoing Will tone as best I could. But both guys look at me.

"What up?" Said Jeremy lightly bumping me with his side.

"It's nothing. I just feel like someone is following me." I said shrugging my shoulders. I was trying to be as nonchalant as possible.

"Really?" Will looked at me with concern written all over his face.

"Creepy." Said Jeremy make an interesting face that I wish I could describe.

"Yeah but my dads said its probably just the increase in patrols making me feel on edge." I repeated what I had been told by my dads earlier.

"Their probably right." Jeremy said with a smile. Will nodded in agreement but the look on his face said he didn't buy it.

"I hope so." The smile on my face was forced but neither of them questioned it. We continued heading to school talking about anything else.
