Chapter One: Huh?
Percy's Dream
Percy, for once, was in a comfortable area, with a calming and relaxing atmosphere. He, of course, knew this wasn't real and he was in a dream, but he couldn't help but feel glad that the room (if you could even call it that) was a place he loved so much.
When Percy went to bed, he suspected to have a nightmare, like usual, or some prophetic dream, but was relieved and confused when he was outdoors. Even though he was outdoors, he soon found out that a strange barrier was preventing him from leaving the small enclosure. The enclosure consisted of a relaxed waterfall, falling into beautiful pool. The water itself was calming, like everything else that was here.
Trees were dotted around the landscape, silently blowing in the faint breeze. Underneath one of the biggest trees, was a picnic setup, including a checkered blanket and a picnic basket. Percy swears he could hear birds chirping, though there were no birds, or any wildlife, in sight.
But was the strangest thing was that none of this seems to matter. All that matter was the woman standing in front of him.
She looked just like any other human, except she gave off a aura of power, like a god or goddess She had blond hair, almost white, braided up into a intricate bun, with a few strands flowing down. She had pale skin, but not too pale that made her look like a ghost, and...black eyes? He couldn't tell, because the color kept changing. Black, blue, white, gray, he couldn't keep up with it. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line, but she managed a small smile when she looked at Percy. Percy noted that the woman wore an elegant white dress, with flowing sleeves and a gold trim. At the bottom of her dress, golden flame designs flared up, shimmering as she walked towards him. She also wore a strange multi colored necklace, with every single color.
She was suddenly sitting on the checkered picnic blanket, smiling up at him. Then she spoke with a soft voice, "Have a seat, hero."
For some reason, he did. The woman waved her hand and a full three course meal appeared, including all of Percy's favorite foods. As Percy grabbed some blue cookies, he asked, "Who are you?"
The woman's smile dims, and she sighs. "I suppose you wouldn't know me. After all, the gods don't respect me, they won't even speak my name."
At this, Percy was incredibly confused. "Huh?"
The woman smile brightens again. "Oh, right. I forgot you don't know my name. Very well, I am Capriana, goddess of uncertainty and other worldly creations. Nice to meet you, young hero."
Percy likes to think that he knows a decent amount of Greek mythology, after all, sometimes it saves his life, but he was sure he had never heard of a goddess of other worldly creations. Or a goddess named Capriana, for that matter. And a goddess of uncertainty and other worldly creations? Yeah, this had to be his mind playing tricks on him.
Capriana, seemingly reading his thoughts, responds. "You do not know of me, young hero, because I don't exist. Well, not in your world." Percy's face must displayed his emotions perfectly, because Capriana laughed. "I am the goddess of the other worldly things, but just other worlds is fine. I promise you this is not a joke, young hero."
"But why, if you are a goddess, won't the gods acknowledge you?" Percy asks, and wished he hadn't. Capriana doesn't seem to pleased with the question, but answers it anyways.
"My name, if you do not know, means 'unclear'. Zeus believes that I am untrustworthy and has banned me from stepping foot on Mount Olympus, except for the winter solstice! Can you believe that? Just because of a stupid name, I cannot be accepted."
"Names have power." Percy says. Capriana studies him and sighs.
"I suppose so, young hero. But, we have more important matters to discuss." Her face turned serious, and the food Percy was eating suddenly didn't taste so good anymore. "I have not come to you just to simply rant about unfairness, no, this is a more urgent matter. Are you familiar with the goddess Hecate?"
Percy thinks for a bit for responding. "She's the goddess of magic, right?"
Capriana nods her head. "Or witchcraft and wizardry. Hecate is," she hesitates, "something else. She's... wild, I suppose. Does what she wants. Tell me, young hero, have you ever thought that maybe witchcraft and wizardry exists in the world?"
Percy shakes his head. "Hm. Well, witchcraft and wizardry exists. Where? You may asks, well in Scotland, there is the most prominent society of witches and wizards. This society was created by Hecate herself during the First Titan War. In a desperate attempt to preserve a small portion of the worlds magic, Hecate put some magic in newborn babies, and created secret entrances and houses for these children to be protected in. Once they were older, they started to, ah, create more of the magical humans.
"These humans called themselves witches and wizards, and they begin to grow larger and larger, spreading out everywhere, and eventually became the large society it is today. Of course, those who are not a witch or a wizard are called muggles, and know nothing of this, and Hecate intends to keep it that way.
"But, a man by the name of Tom Riddle or, as he calls himself, Lord Voldemort, rose quickly through the ranks and threw the world into chaos with help from his followers, the Death Eaters. He was powerful, and sought to defeat everyone who rebelled against them, they called themselves the Order of the Phoenix. He killed two new parents, Lily and James Potter. He intended to kill their son, Harry Potter, too, but the killing curse backfired and ended up killing Voldemort instead.
"For a while, it seemed as if everything was back to normal, but Hecate had feared that her little toys were being oblivious to the fact that the Dark Lord had risen. Only Harry Potter, his friends, and certain wizard named Dumbledore knew that he has awaken. Their government, the Ministry of Magic, had ignored everything and was against Potter and everyone who believes he had been awaken.
"Luckily, Potter defeated Voldemort and all was well. For the wizards, but not demigods. Voldemort's death brought out a war on the demigods, the one which you fought. Our war was won, and each other was in peace. Until now.
Percy takes in all this information. "Okay," he begins, "so what does this have to do with me?"
Capriana gives him a look. "I want you, Nico do Angelo, and Thalia Grace to go to Hogwarts, the school where Harry Potter will be attending classes, and protect the Boy Who Lived while posing as a teacher."
Silence.
"No."
She doesn't seemed surprised. "You want to take your girlfriend with you, I'm guessing."
Percy nods and Capriana sighs. "I cannot allow you to take Athena's daughter with you on this quest. But," she continues, cutting off whatever Percy was about to say, "I am the goddess of worlds, therefore I can bend the rules of this reality to allow you to spend a few hours with her every day. Not through Iris message, no, through a mirror, you could say.
Percy stays quiet for bit before answering. "Has Thalia and Nico agreed?"
Her eyes are unfocused for a second, before she responds. "I have contacted them through their dreams. Each has responded with a yes, as long as you are in." Her image fades a bit. "Hurry, young hero, the gods have realized I am contacting you. You must answer before I fade away. If you agree, tomorrow night I will give you all the information you need. Now, hurry and answer, Percy Jackson."
Percy thinks. He was hoping to spend the time after the war with Annabeth and all his friends, not go on another stupid quest. But, after hearing about this Boy Who Lived, he couldn't not go. This world needs him, and Thaila and Nico are waiting on him.
He swallows his uncertainty and faces the goddess of it. He takes a deep breath and says, "I accept this quest."
Capriana is not a real goddess, I made her up. She is not super important, she's just there to help Percy and the others.
