It's A Spell

Hogwarts, Somewhere in Scotland

Hermione was officially stumped. For the past two weeks, she had been looking through every book she could find, trying to find out why a Harry found a hellhound. And guess what? She found nothing. Absolutely nothing. And she was angry. She would never admit it, but she was tired of reading. She'd been getting headaches with all the information she'd been taking in.

She also couldn't find anything about the conversation they listened in on. All the death eaters were in Azkaban, and nobody would dare try to get out. Most of them are afraid of Harry, Hermione, and Ron now.

Ron and Harry were her only saving graces. They even tried to help her out with the reading, even though they did more harm than good, she found the gesture sweet.

Hermione slung her bag over her shoulder as walked with Harry and Ron towards Defense Against the Dark Arts. As they arrived, they door was closed and a note was pinned on the wall.

Come to the lake

~Percy J.

She looked at Harry and Ron, but they were already hurrying to the lake. Hermione sighed, and rushed after them. It turns out, they were the last ones to arrived, and when they came, Percy grinned at them.

"Welcome, back," he starts, not bothered by the chilling air. "Today, I thought we'd try something else." He grabbed a bag of giant chocolate chips from his large bag, and threw it into the lake. The class waited in silence, confused at was going on, until a giant blood red squid jumped out of the lake, swallowing the giant chocolate chips.

The class gasps as the squid stays above the surface of the water, seemingly glaring at them. Percy chuckles at their faces. "Don't worry, he's harmless."

"He?!" The class asks incredulous, together, like they were part of some sort of movie or fanfiction-I mean book.

"Yes, he," Percy says, chuckling. "First question, anybody know anything about the Giant Squid that lives in this lake? Hermione? Any idea?"

Hermione nods, her ears turning pink as her teacher points her out above everyone. "The Giant Squid lives in the Great Lake near Hogwarts, and even has it's own chocolate frog card. It's said to be the bane of Hogwarts, and very dangerous."

Percy smiles. "Great job, as always Hermione," Hermione beams. "But, the Giant Squid is harmless, and enjoys chocolate chips, apparently. Come on, take turns feeding it." At the skeptical looks of the class, he explains. "I said he's harmless. I promise you, he won't harm any human. Now, who wants to go first? Harry? Harry come on up here!"

Harry slowly walks towards the squid, taking a few giant chocolate chips from Percy, and stands at the lake. He gulps, and throws the chips. The Giant Squid eats them, and it seems like it's smiling at Harry, before it swims over to Percy. Percy scratches it's head, and smiles out at the shocked faces of the crowd.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Come get your chocolate!" The entire class started feeding the squid, and Percy was right, it was harmless.

Hermione was very happy at the end, and made a mental note to visit the squid tonight with Harry and Ron, which is exactly what the Trio did.

They walked out to the lake after dinner, chocolate in hand. But they stop as the saw three figures standing at the lake, Hermione realizes that the figures were Percy, Nico, and Thalia. One of them was in the water, which Hermione was surprised about as it was quite cold. The group slowly approached them, and heard their conversation.

Thalia had her hand on her hip, and looking annoyed. "Percy, get out of the water." So it was Percy who was swimming. "We have more important things to discuss than the Giant Squid."

Percy sighs, but gets out, completely dry, to Hermione's surprise. "Yeah yeah, I get it. Annabeth told me to stop talking with the lake creatures, as it was distracting me, apparently."

"She's right," Thalia mumbles.

"Guys," Nico says, alarm lacing his voice as he takes out his sword. Immediately, Thalia and Percy take out their weapons, too. "I think we have company."

Hermione thought they meant them, so she was ready to walk out, when Harry caught her and pointed a shaky figure at the approaching dog like creatures. "Hellhounds," Harry mumbled.

The teachers noticed them, too. "Hellhounds? Again? Come on, it's like the Fates are trying to torture me with dangerous Mrs. O' Leary's."

"That's really what your worried about?" Thalia scolds. "Your pet? Not like, us dying?"

Percy shrugs. "Eh, I think you guys are more inclined to die than me. No offense."

Thalia scowls at him, looking like she's about to curse him, but Nico buts in. "Guys, we have more pressing concerns than whoever is more likely to die."

The two agree and get ready to attack, except the Hellhounds stand frozen as a voice starts talking, and Hermione hears a gasp from Harry.

"Hello, heroes," the voice sneers. "How nice it is to see you. I wish our meeting was on different terms, though, but this will have to do. Anything to teach people to not look through another's things."

"Oops," Percy says, "if I had known it was yours, I would've left it alone."

The voice seems to growl. "Yes, Percy Jackson, I'm sure you would have. I don't have time for your nonsense. Hellhounds, kill them."

The voice fades, and the Hellhounds pounce. Hermione knows she has to do something, so, against Harry and Ron warnings, she yells, "Percy! Watch out!"

The teacher looks startled and looks towards Hermione, and Thalia say, "Kelp Head! Don't get distracted!"

But to was too late. The Hellhound slashed it's sharp claws across Percy's chest, and the Trio screams, preparing themselves to protect him.

But to Hermione's amazement, the paw just bounced off him, and Percy only stumbles back before slashing the Hellhound, making it explode into ash. A few minutes later, the teachers are wounded, except Percy, who is helping the others as the Trio approaches.

"So," Thalia starts, glaring at them as she tends to her wounds, "why were you spying on us?"

"Uhh..."

Before they answer, Thalia glares at them. "Thanks for distracting us. We could've finished them off in seconds if you weren't there."

"Uh, what?"

Percy sighs as he stands up, and helps the others. "We didn't want you getting hurt, which is why we were distracted. Now be nice, Thalia."

"They were spying on us!" She shoots back.

He shakes his head. "Still no reason to be rude."

In the middle of their argument, Hermione's mind was racing, and she couldn't hold in her question. "How come your not injured?"

The group visibly stiffens, and Percy responds with, "It's a spell." And leaves it at that. "Now, you guys should get to bed."

With that, group leaves, leaving Hermione to wonder.

As she laid in her bed, she racked her brain for any spells that would've protected Percy that long, but she couldn't come up with any.

She did, however, come to a conclusion.

The new teachers were hiding something, and Hermione was going to figure it out.

Short chapter, sorry.

P.S. The giant squid doesn't eat giant chocolate chips, I made that up. But who wouldn't like giant chocolate chips?

P.S.S. I know that Hellhounds show up a lot in this story, but it's the best monster for the job because they can shadow travel to Hogwarts.
