Universal P.O.V
The sunrise creeps over the horizon casting and orange glow over the crystal clear ocean. It illuminates the small island and reveals the man standing in the centre of a stretch of sand. The sound of chooppers breaks through the serenity of the crashing waves and two large military styled helicopters peel around the island.
Inside sit 8 Americans in each chopper, all about to embark on the experience of a lifetime. All of them excitedly stare out the windows and sit in awe of the crystal like water and dense rainforest.
The choppers slowly descend and land on either side of Jeff Proust who is excited for the season to get underway and watch these people play the game. The first person to set foot on the island is Mabel and she relishes the first impression with a deep breath before she sets of towards Jeff.
He shows her to an orange mat and she waits for the rest of her teammates to join her on the mat. Next a petite Asian woman scurries out of the helicopter, not appreciating the view like Mabel did, she's wearing practical hiking pants and a button down shirt, a complete contrast of Mabel's dressy skirt and singlet top. After her piles out Dale, a quirky farmer and Alyssa. They both make up the oldest women and man on their tribe and they smile broadly when they great their new teammates.
They are joined by Benjamin and Jackson and it clear they are the more buff members of the tribe, and this definitely doesn't go past Mabel who is unsubtly beaming in Benjamin's direction. Another girl is next to exit the helicopter, she is less overt in her first impressions of her team members but she is friendly nonetheless. The last person from their tribe is Wes who walks out with a sort of self-assurance that contributes greatly to his first impression, already Lian the no nonsense Asian woman can tell he will have a big personality.
The Mele tribe watch as the Iririki tribe unload, eager to see what their up against. First to pile out are Nick and Ashley who both are fans and gush over the island as they make their way over to the red mat next to jeff. Meatloaf is the next to join them, every notices his big burly figure and some recognise him as famous Ex-NFL player, Michael Davey. After him Sierra and Rhea come out, both are young fit looking girls and Rhea almost lets out a squeal of excitement as the exit the helicopter. Xavier is straight after them and his long blond hair is caught in the wind dramatically. He smiles up at the sky mutter a few words of prayer before he joins the feast of his tribe. Penelope and Colby are the last to get on the island and both are skinnier than some of the other more fit contestants but it is clear both are in shape.
"Welcome to Survivor Vanuatu," Jeff begins, throwing his arms up to indicate the picturesque beach they're standing on. Both tribes let out and excited cheer, some still awestruck by the beauty.
"There are sixteen of you in front of me, but only one of you will be sole survivor. And in order to do that you need to last all 39 days here and outwit, outplay and of course outlast," he says studying the crowd around him, most people smile quietly to themselves, especially the fans of the show.
"I will now give each tribe a map and compass and leave you to make you way to your beaches. All of the supplies you will start off with will be under your tribe flag," Jeff announces and walks of to the Mele tribe first. Lian pushes to the front and takes it upon herself to trap the map, this earns a few eyebrow raises from her teammates. Wes asks the girl standing next to him, Cressandra if she wants it before offering to take the compass. Mele begin to head off and Iririki wave them off. Jeff hands the map to xavier and the compass Sierra. "Let's go!" Xavier says before leading his tribe in the opposite direction than Mele.
Ashley's P.O.V
Two hours into our hike to our new home and my suspicions of Xavier's map skills are at an all time high. As far as first impressions go it is clear he has real difficulty focusing and seems really carefree. I usually would find the carefree personality quite good, but when it comes to following a map it's probably not the best trait to have. I could've sworn we passed the same canopy tree at least three times.
