The sun was starting to set, bathing the entire yard in a golden glow as Harry pulled the door open and stepped out onto the deck. He vaguely registered his friends and family standing from their folding chairs, but his eyes went directly to Louis. Louis who was already looking at him like he was the most precious thing on earth. Louis. Standing at the end of the makeshift isle, illuminated by a thousand rays of sunlight, Louis. Golden Louis. His Louis.
Harry could feel his heartbeat throughout his whole body, thumping in his fingertips, behind his ribs, pounding in his head. He couldn't help the grin that spread across his face as he locked eyes with Louis. Louis lifted his hand to his heart, genuinely in awe at the beauty of the man that was walking towards him.
Harry moved across the lawn and stopped where the seats began. He stood and looked around at his friends and family, the people that had been there for him through every up and down, all dressed in suits and soft dresses, waiting for him. A cool breeze ran across his cheeks, ruffling his hair and shaking the leaves on surrounding trees. Louis stood across the grass, under a small archway, surrounding with glittery lit trees, watching him with teary eyes as he started to walk towards him.
The ceremony was silent except for the rhythmic rustling of the leaves and breaths of wind. Ten steps. Nine steps. Eight....until he was only two steps away from Louis. Harry stopped when he stepped in front of Louis, looking down into his clear blue eyes. Louis looked up at him, his eyes watery.
Niall stood by Harry's side and Zayn stood by Louis' while everyone sat back down in their seats, and the officiant, who happened to be one of Anne's best friends, took her place in front of the group. Harry had grown up with Mary coming by every weekend for tea with his mum, which they still did as often as possible, and she and had started learning sign language a year after Harry lost most of his hearing.
She held her hands out towards the boys and welcomed everyone. She began the ceremony in sign language and aloud, but moved to only sign language to share a little bit about Harry and Louis' relationship that Anne and Jay had told her about when they'd spoken on the phone earlier. She continued the ceremony in sign, and motioned for the boys to share their words to each other.Louis looked up at Harry curiously, and he nodded, letting Louis begin. Louis' hands shook slightly as he signed; his whole body facing Harry, his words just for him.
Harry. My Hazza. It's truly remarkable to think that every thing I've done in my entire life has lead me to this, lead me to you. The best, and most important one by far, was the first day I walked to Violet Hill nearly three years ago. And then Georgia noticed before I even said anything... the day she gave me the peonies.
Louis' cheeks flushed a soft pink.
It was luck that you were sat outside after my shift. But brilliant, beautiful luck. Starting that day, every day we've spent together has been the best day of my life. I am so lucky that I get to wake up and fall asleep beside you. That I get to experience life with you, the good days and the hard ones. That I get to love you. It feels like the best gift in the world to love you. You're my best friend, Haz. My best friend and the love of my life. It's always you, and it will always be you. I love you so much.Harry sniffled softly, holding his trembling lip between his teeth. He grinned at Louis with watery eyes and took his hand, rubbing his thumb softly along the delicate skin by his wrist.
I love you too.
Harry took a deep breath before he started.
Lou.
He bit the inside of his cheek from smiling so hard and he'd barely started what he wanted to say.
Lou. You make me so happy. You make me feel so safe and so brave and so loved. You are everything that is light and good in life. I'm so grateful for your presence in my life, Louis. For your laugh, your touch, and just the beautifully genuine way that you are. Everything about you is my favourite thing, and I'm so lucky to love you. Before I--
He paused and smiled Louis placed his hand so softly on Harry's hip until he continued.
Before I lost my hearing completely, yours was my favourite voice to hear. I could have listened to it for hours.
