The sound of music and the smell of alcohol was prominent in these types of merky areas. Choras den was a safe haven for smugglers and criminals as Fist protected them from the law.
As I entered the bar, I turned a few heads towards my direction. Of course I was an eye catcher, the council's most feared tool was hanging around in the most scummiest place known to any species on the citadel.
I walked up to the bar and ordered my drink. I wasn't gonna let some unwanted stares make me feel unwelcomed. I knew people feared me, hated me. That wasn't new.
The bartender handed me my drink. It was a simple cold beer. I wasn't about to get ass drunk in front of people who could potentially kill me for money.
After just a few sips, a voice intruded in. " What a pleasant surprise, (y/n) (l/n) has graced us with her presence."
I knew all to well who this asshole was. Turning around with my beer in hand I was face to face with Fist. A grin was plastered on his face, and I instantly knew that meant big trouble.
" Fist, how's the love life going? Did things work out with that asari consort you've been pinning over or do you just have a face a mother could love?" I said with a friendly smile.
Fist's grin faltered, I struck a nerve that could cost me my head but we all know that would be a bad move.
" Sha'ira does have a thing for me. She's just shy cause I'm so handsome and different from her other patrons. I'll have you know she calls me 'haram zada' " Fist replied to my comment with an ever itch to validate that he had looks.
" Do you even know what that means?" I said while trying to cover my snickers. Fist gave a proud smile to me, " of course I know what it means, she said it means 'beloved' in asari culture." he said.
I laughed a little, ' oh man, he really is dumb but I ain't gonna ruin this guy's day by telling him what it means.' I thought to myself. " Of course, you are limportant to her but I'm just saying, she didn't seem too happy when I met her last week. Let's just say, making her happy again was part of my job. " I said with a smirk.
Fist stopped his movemts, a glare crossed his face. The atmosphere around us had became hostile. He was ready to kill and I was ready too.
" You clearly know how to piss of people (l/n). " buted in a voice I was all to familiar with now. I smiled as I glanced toward my right side. " I try my best. What's a life without a little drama and action." I said as the turian walked towards me handing me a new drink.
The said turian faced fist and said, " you should really focus on fixing your messes Fist, have you heard from your right hand man. Last I heard he was busted for a drug cartel. You should look into that, rather than starting fights you can't win."
With an agitated look Fist pranced out of his bar and into his private room to go do something.
The turian looked up at me, " Really (l/n) you gotta stop picking fights with every thing that breathes." he said as he dragged me off to a corner where things were more quiter.
As I was being dragged off I noticed an old friend. " Kranx, it's good to see you old friend." I said as I pulled myself away from the turian. The krogan looked up and smiled.
" Well if it isn't the meat sack. How have you been?" he said as he didn't push me away when I went in for a hug. I laughed a little, " you know how my life is old man. A lot of drama, plus I miss the times when we went on missions. Sadly you had to settle for a more cushy job since your wife wouldn't want you gone for too long." I said.
Kranx laughed as well, he was use to my comments. Kranx and I continued talking until we both heard a cough. " Excuse me, am I gonna be introduced or am I a bother? " the turian said.
" Oh yeah, forgot you were there. Kranx, this is Garrus Vakarian C-sec officer an.... associate. Garrus, this is Kranx former mercenary, now works for fist as his bodyguard. Plus he's an old mentor and friend. " I said as I patted Kranx's back.
" A mentor, you say? I didn't know you trained under a krogan. " Garrus said, leaning his head to the side to show he was curious to know more. I smiled, " Well yes, let me tell you it wasn't easy. This old timer really grinder my gears, literally." I said.
" Well you had to be tested to the extreme to be my student and I was told to not show you mercy." Kranx said as he swatted my back so hard that I almost dropped my drink.
" (L/N), as much as I would love to give you time with your friend. I would like us to take our conversation to a more private place. " Garrus said as he grasped my hand and pulled me towards him.
" Well looks like you still have a thing to make every alien fall for you kid. Have a fun conversation. " Kranx said. He gave me a wink and walked away. I blushed at his words. " That's not what it looks like he's just an associate." I yelled as I was dragged away from my friend.
We reached a quite booth at the corner of the bar and sat down. It was a perfect location to have a conversation. "So, miss (l/n), what should I call you? Clearly you have many nicknames. " Garrus said.
" Well you can call me (y/n). As for the nicknames we aren't that close." I said, chugging down the last remaining gulps of my drink. The turian stared me down with his electric gaze, it was like his way of studying my movements. He was planning what to say next.
" Okay Vakarian. Before we talk, I'm gonna set some ground rules. Okay." I said. Garrus nodded, listening to what I said further.
" Rule number 1, you can't ask me anything related to Saren's case or my work - that is not allowed. Rule number 2, you can't get me drunk. Rule number 3, everything I say will be off the record. You can't use my words against me. Finally rule number 4, the amount of times you ask me questions I get to ask you the same amount. Do we have a deal? " I finnaky finished speaking. Garrus paused for a whole twenty seconds before agreeing.
" Alright, you may begin. " I said as I waved to the bar tender to get me another drink. Not much was said for a while, Garrus was trying to formulate his questions in his mind. I on the other hand might had been checking him out. Not my fault that most turians are gorgeous and hot then humans.
" What was your childhood like back at Mindoir before the slavers attacked." he asked with a talon caressing his chin. I was stunned, memories of my old happy life flashed by me. Memories, that brought a sense of euphoria but also harsh stab in my heart.
A waitress brought my beer at our table, sensing the tension she went away quickly. I grasped the bottle and chugged the drink. Before I could even finish the drink, Vakarian pissed me off with his final words of the evening.
" Did I strike bad memories (l/n), considering you were the one who was responsible for the slaughter of your own colony." he said with a glare in eyes that portrayed bitterness.
I swung the bottle aiming for his head but Garrus just tilted his head to the side making the bottle shatter on the wall near him.
I got up from my seat, trying to catch my bearings - not wanting to seem weak. The only thing I said before leaving was, " I had to what I had to do. I don't regret what I did."
