It was a quiet day on the Citadel. There were no threats that needed to be taken care of and the council had given Nihlus and I a chance to breathe a little.
We both had decided to let loose a little at chora's den - the most famous bar on the Citadel, for its music, dancers , and its crime. Either way, we ordered our drinks and sat down near the bar.
" Hey (y/n), have you heard about commander Shepard?" Nihlus questioned. " Yeah, the famous commander who was awarded the star of Terra. Why do you ask? " I asked.
Nihlus just sighed," Well you see, the council wants me to evaluate commander Shepard for the spectre programme and I was hoping to get your insight before I meet her." he said as the bar tender served us our drinks.
It was quite for a while between us. I really didn't know what to say to him, my mind was jumbled up with questions as to why I wasn't informed about this decision by the council or the alliance.
Nihlus on the other hand understood my silence, he knew the agony I had went through during the brutal trainings the council and the alliance had put me through to make the perfect solider. Yet, I was kept in the dark from a lot of things because they still saw me as a loose end.
During this time, I hadn't noticed an arm wrap around my shoulders. I was brought back into the comfort realms of reality by a honey sweet voice
" (y/n), your safe with me and Nihlus. Forget about what happened in the past." Saren said as he gulped down the rest of my drink. " Hey! That was my drink jackass!" I said while punching the turian's shoulder playfully.
Saren just chuckled, placing an arm around my waist and pulling me to hug." It's great to see you again (y/n), I've missed you." he whispered as he leaned onto me more.
" I missed you too shitface." I said with sarcasm dripping from my words. " So no one is gonna acknowledge the sad little turian in the corner? " Nihlus said with a sad look on his face.
" Come here you big baby." I said with making space for the turian to join the hug. Who would have guessed that Saren Arterius, known to everyone as a brutal spectre would actually be a softy to his only two close friends.
The three of us, just talked. Just three really good friends bragging about their accomplishments and complaining about the councillors really bad fashion sense.
The night continued on, with non of us knowing when hell was about to break loose that would shake our friendship to its core.

" All systems online, drift just under 1500 K. " Joker said as he finally relaxed until Nihlus appeared. " 1500 is good, your captain would be pleased." said the voice of an authoritative turian. I saw Joker become rigid again from the corner of my eye. Of course he still hasn't gotten used to the spectre yet.
Still I couldn't ignore the underlying tension on the bridge as Shepard had also walked in to see what was going on. After a few minutes, Nihlus finally left.
" I hate that guy." Joker said as he laid back into his chair. I looked up from the screen and saw Kaidan and Joker having a friendly banter with the commander also dragged into it somehow.
Everything was going smoothly until, " Wait maybe (y/n) would agree with me. Can you tell Alenko and the commander here that I'm being paranoid for a good reason." Joker said while driving the attention of the entire room towards me.
" Well Jeff, as much as I love taking your side on certain matters. I have to side with Shepard and Alenko on this one, there is nothing to be worried about. The spectre is just here to make sure that things go smoothly." I said with a smile.
In response, Jeff just scowled at me and started grumbling about how I should have sided with him. A few minutes later, captain Anderson commed in to send Shepard to the com room.
When Shpeard had left, the pilot had opened up his mouth to revel a secret. " Now that the commander is gone, Alenko when are you gonna tell her that you like her?" he said.
Kaiden's face became rigid. You could sense the embarrassment from a mile away, so I did the only logical thing. I added more fuel to the fire.
" Yeah, your right Jeff. I once saw him giving the commander those puppy dog eyes. I think Shepard saw him do that." I uttered.
My words became a breaking point for Kaidan. He got up from his seat and quickly maneuvered away from us. You could see his face turn bright red like a star.
Joker and I looked at each other trying not to laugh at our friend's discomfort since we were on a professional mission. So our laughs erupted into chuckles.
After the whole ordeal, a peaceful humming sound of the ship had settled in. Joker typed away on his screen while I looked up at the view of the galaxy.
It was beautiful. A sky filled with colours dancing with each other without a care. Colours clashing with each other to create new waves of life or stars.
It did really make you question as to what was beyond the milky-way itself. Maybe new life or just a universe filled with endless destruction.
Who knows..?
" You know, you can take a nap (y/n). I'll wake you up before we reach Eden Prime." he said as he glanced at me with a worried look.
" Jeff no, what if the captain walks in and.. " before I could even complete my sentence Jeff uttered in. " Nothing will happen. Trust me. You've haven't gotten enough sleep as it is. Now come take a seat next to me and relax. " he said with concerned laced in his words.
I sighed, giving in to his words. He was right, I hadn't had time for sleep let alone myself. I got up from my seat and walked up to the chair that was once occupied by the blushing Alenko.
Pulling my legs up to feel comfortable I was soon lulled to the peaceful realms of dreamland by the humming sounds of the Normandy.
