It had been roughly two hours since the exam had begun, and you were tired. Not so much now, as you had gotten used to the exhaustion. Quite a few people had dropped out, many of them passing out from exhaustion. You try to ignore them, instead focusing on the music playing in your right earbud. You had kept the left one you took out earlier in its case, on the occasion you needed to hear something.
Even if you had both your earbuds in, you couldn't have missed suit man yelling at a silver-haired boy on a skateboard. "Hey! Kid!" Suit man shouted. "How about you show a little respect for the exam!!"
The kid in question looks confused. "What do you mean?"
"I mean quit using a damn skateboard!! That's cheating!" Suit man angrily points at the kid.
"How's that?"
"How? This is an endurance test, that's how!"
"No, it's not" the kid in green states.
Suit man stares at his friend in disbelief. "Now what are you babbling about, Gon?"
"The examiner only said we had to follow him. That's all" Gon. So that's his name. It's a strange name, not that you're one to talk.
"Who's side are you on?!" Suit man proceeds to freak out again. The silver hair boy then falls back. He exchanges a few words with Gon, then proceeds to flip his skateboard and catch it. They keep talking, not as loud as suit man though. So you go back to your music. It's not until they go silent that you look back at them. At the edge of the pack, they stand there, staring at suit man, who's now hunched over, panting heavily. You keep running, slightly increasing your pace.
Then you see it. Holy shit. If you were going to drop out, It'd be now. In front of you is stairs, as far as your eyes can see. Stairs. Lord are you scared of stairs. These things practically kill your legs, and now you're faced with one in which you can't see the end of. You consider dropping out when suit man zooms past you. If this old man can pass you, you really are pathetic. You catch your breath before continuing up the stairs.
Your pace is now matched with suit man, who once again looks like he is dying.
"Are you ok man?" "Are you ok, Leorio?" You and another person ask him simultaneously. It was the person who was accompanying him earlier when you nearly ran into the group after fleeing Hisoka. You made the assumption they're traveling companions. "Oh, I'm sorry for interrupting. Just seems like your friend here is practically dying." You apologize briefly before focusing back on the path ahead of you.You fall back, only for when you catch up finding the two to be talking about themselves, and the reason they were taking the exam. You don't really have a reason to take the exam, sure you can do a lot with a Hunter's License, but that's not why you're doing it. You think back to school, where one of your upperclassmen mentioned the exam. Minamoto and his friends had discussed how they were going to participate in the hunter exam, and how excited you were. Instead of just looking up other people's experiences with the exam, you decided it was a good idea to go see for yourself what they were so excited about. What had come over you, you weren't entirely sure. Minamoto was still in the exam, as you had recall seeing him earlier. Minamoto had brought three of his friends to the exam, and one of them had collapsed. Another looked close to collapsing, but as far as you knew the three were still going strong.
Once again, Leorio starts yelling. What is with him and yelling? Was he just a loud person or could he not hear himself. Soon Gon and the silver-haired boy soon passes you. "Catch you later old man," he sticks out his tongue at Leorio.
Leorio looks like he's had it. "Hey! I'm not old. Can't you see I'm a teenager just like you guys?!"
You nearly trip over yourself, quickly managing to catch yourself. The other looked equally surprised, there eyes wide. You had reached the top and were now panting heavily. You somehow managed, yet you still didn't know how. You were hunched over, your head aching. You have the urge to vomit, but the only thing coming up was liquids. You try to hold it in, but at the cost of someone toppling over you. "ASKFKGK" You fall to the ground, the Monster you had earlier splatting on the pavement in front of you. Your breath is gone, and you start coughing, choking slightly at the liquid that was still in your throat. Your vision spins and blurs , and eventually fades to black.
