The fight has been occuring for quite a few hours. Ayume was reaching her limit very very soon.

"Not yet..." Ayume thought as she tries to get up with her swords. Her skirt and haori were ripped badly. Her hair was in a mess and she was covered in her blood.

Multiple blood vessels have bursted and bled internally but Ayume concentrated heavily to stop the bleedings. Or at least slow it down.

"You look...really messed up there. You okay~?" Douma mocked with a sadistic smile. Ayume didn't smile. She couldn't. Her muscles were failing out on her. Her attacks have decreased in strength and speed. All she can do now is breathe to stop all her wounds from bleeding too much and dodge attacks.

"Scattering Lotuses." Douma attacked and Ayume could only jump away to dodge them. She could no longer counter attack.

"Breath of--" Ayume vomitted blood for the third time already. Her chest was screaming in pain. It was a sign that Ayume has already reached her limit.

"Ah~ it's expected. Of course you will go down first. It's natural, right?" Douma said as he swinged his fan again for a frosty wind to attack Ayume. Ayume could still dodge it but she fell down. The grips on her swords were weak too.

Ayume tries to get up with the help of her swords. In a blink of an eye, Douma was in front of her and he kicked her swords down, making Ayume fall down too.

"Pathetic. You're quite strong, I'll admit that. But...you're no different from the weaklings I have devoured." Douma said mockingly.

Ayume looked down to the ground, unable to react to whatever Douma has to say. She just felt empty.

Douma grabbed her head and forced her to look up.

"Your suffering will end now." Douma said before he pulls Ayume's head closer to his body.

Is this really it? Am I going to die right now?

Ayume couldn't move. Her arms and legs were already numb. Her chest feels severe pain and her head was spinning.

Her body stiffened as she couldn't move an inch. Her head was growing closer to Douma's body.

No...not like this.

Ayume exhaled a steady breath and slowly reached out for one of her swords. She then sliced Douma's hand off and her sword dropped from weak grips. Douma's hand regenerated quickly.

"Your surprises always get me." He said with a slight hint of annoyance. Ayume was still facing down to the ground.

There was a dead silence. Douma looked at the sky and pouted.

"Shit. I have to go..." He said as the sky gets brighter. Ayume heard that and managed to grip her swords again.

No you're not.

Ayume threw her sword, aiming them at Douma's neck but it barely even reached him. He then fled to the trees. Ayume fell forward and attempted to chase him by crawling.

I...can at least move my...limbs.

She thought as she reached for her other sword. She then stopped moving as her mother's hairpin was right in front of her face.

Douma was running through the trees. The sun was coming up at a slow pace but he wasn't taking any chances.

"She probably planned to get me to stay till the sun comes up." Douma thought.

"Whatever, she can't go anywhere in that condition. She'll probably die there." He shrugged his shoulders with a smile on his face.

Ayume gripped onto her mother's hair pin as tight as she could before she fade in and out of consciousness.
