14. We all need therapy

I felt two strong arms wrap around me and pull me out of the water. I started violently coughing out liquid and shivering as my saviour carried me away. I could hear yelling and the sound of a flamethrower behind me, but I couldn't do anything. My mind was foggy and my limbs refused to work anymore.

The next time I opened my eyes we were back in the Washingtons' house and a bunch of wendigos were surrounding us.

I'm so lucky, I don't even have to try not to move! I'm an expert in that right now!

I couldn't keep my eyes open for long, though. I didn't want to see any more of those nightmare creatures anyway.

I heard a bunch of screeches and jumping around. At one point the noises were so lound I just had to open my eyes. Through my lashes I saw a bigger monster (probably Hannah) and a smaller one, fighting. Of course Hannah won, then went after her next victim. Josh was slowly moving toward the door and he almost got out, but a Hannah jumped right in front of him.

Even if I couldn't really move, I somehow stiffened too, along with the dorky, green-eyed puppy who was carrying me.

She screamed into his face twice, before moving away.

What a nice way to greet your sibling after he thought you were dead for over a year. I might try that too with my sister!

Josh ran out of there and sat down next to Emily, Chris, Ashley, the flamethrower guy and his pet whom he calls 'Wolfie'. The only ones left in that cursed house were Sam and Mike.

I saw a figure running out of the house which I quickly recognized as the stubborn melon-head, then, not long after, Sam flew out of there, leaving that damn building in flames.

"Well, my job is done here, for now." the stranger said, getting up. "Stay safe and never return, got it?"

Before he could leave, though, I yelled after him with the energy left in me. "Wait!" He turned around and faced me. "T-thank you..." I said, still not knowing his name after all this time.

"Jack, Jack Fiddler. You're very welcome, kiddo. Well, see ya' around..." he walked away with his wolf by his side "...never, hopefully." he mumbled when he thought no one would hear him.

Josh held me tight in his hands, so tight that it's as if he thought that I could slip away at any moment, but it didn't bother me. Even though we were both soaked in ice cold water and we were outside in the middle of winter, there was some kind of warmth between us, which was enough to make me feel safe.

"Fuck me...we fucking made it!" I said, my voice trembling. Everyone was in the snow, hugging. They all responded with weak 'yay's and 'hooray's, which was enough to satisfy me.

Joshua closed his eyes and put his forehead against mine. "Promise me you'll never leave my side again." he softly whispered. That sentence brought tears to my eyes and the little strenght that I found in myself, I used to squeeze his hand.

   "I promise, Joshua."

"Thank you." he said, but I knew that meant so much more.

"N-no problem." I was losing my strenght. He took me closer to him and kissed my freaking forehead. "You're precious, you know that?" he asked while cupping my damaged cheeks. I managed to give him a smile as I felt my cheeks getting wet by my tears. He wiped them off with his thumbs and pulled me to his chest where I felt I could cry for ages.

I started sobbing as he was running his hand in circles around my back.

"W-we made it, Josh, we r-really did..." I cried in happiness as I heard a helicopter approach.

The others were shouting that the sun was finally rising and that we made it until dawn.

The next thing I remember is that the police was struggling to get me out of Josh's arms. They wanted to interview us, but my little dork of a friend was completely and utterly against it.

Eventually, they managed to get me away from him, putting me in front of a camera. I could barely protest, since I was out of energy for that night. No, more like the entire year.

"Tell us, what did you see down in the mines?"

"I...I saw some fucked up shit... but I bet you're not gonna believe me. I don't even believe me myself..."

   "What did you see, Pearl?"

   "I- I saw- I... I saw wendigos. T-they were horrifying..."

   "What happened to you?"

"Heh, I...I went through a lot, I Guess you could say."

"Your friends were telling us about a guy named Jack. Do you know about him?"

"J-jack...h-he saved us. Without his help I d-don't think we would've made it..."

"Why is Josh so attached to you?"

"We just went through a fucking traumatizing event and he is mentally ill! He needs someone to be by his side!"

"What if what you saw back there was just a figment of your imagination?"

"Then I have a damn good imagination! I fucking knew you weren't gonna believe me- us. Let me out of here!"

    "Calm down, we-"

"No! Let me out! Where's Josh?!"

I struggled to get up and out of that damned room. I wanted to feel safe in Josh's arms again. It's the only thing that gives me comfort right now.
