I'd hoped to find my own compartment so I wouldn't have to embarrass myself in front of everyone before I was even half way to Hogwarts but it was just my luck that, every compartment that I'd passed was full. I sighed, biting my lip nervously and wandering back up the corridor, almost falling as the train bumped along the rails.

I peered into a compartment next to me, sat on the two rows of seats was a skinny boy, pale skinned with slicked back blonde hair. He was staring out the window in silence almost as if he was waiting for something worth his time to look at. The two boys opposite him were completely different to him. Despite being at least eleven, they were a lot taller then him, wide shouldered and compared to the blonde, huge.

I gently slid the door open, feeling my face burning up and stood awkwardly in the doorway. The sound of the metal sliding open had gathered their attention and with a jump their eyes flicked towards me, taking in my appearance. "Um, sorry, can I sit? Everywhere else is full." I stammered, heart pounding in my ears almost painfully.

The blonde looked surprised at first as if he hadn't expected someone to want to sit with them. His misty grey eyes stared at me, hard. I was about to turn around and not bother, scared that I was just making a fool of myself when a cold voice said, "And you are?"
The voice had indeed come from blonde boy. I cleared my voice, trying to find it somewhere in my throat. I gulped slowly and managed a quick, "I-I'm Valeria Diggory." I mentally cursed in my head, I sounded like a nervous wreck and it showed plain and clear.

"You can sit next to me." He tried what I think was a smile as he patted the seat next to him lightly. Clearly, he was not a very happy person. I shuffled over to him and sat down gingerly, resting my hands nervously clutched together in my lap.
"This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." The blonde nodded towards the two huge boys in front of us who were currently stuffing as many cauldron cakes in their mouths as possible. I immediately regretted my decision to sit with them. I'd heard about the Malfoy's. Amos worked with Lucius Malfoy at the Ministry. They were all a lot of small-minded fools. His son would be no different.

"So what house are you hoping to get sorted into?" He asked me, noticing the awkward look on my face and the uncomfortable position I was sat in. I was itching to get as far away from the spawn of Lucius Malfoy as quickly as possible but his small talk was not helping.

"Um, I'd be happy with any." I gave him a small smile and shifted in my seat, ignoring the feeling of eyes burning into my skin and just staring out the window instead. The sun had disappeared now as did the clear sky. Clouds the same exact shade of Draco's eyes had formed over the sky, blocking any sunlight from pooling through. The business of London had faded and we were now being taken across meadows and hills much like the ones I had seen on the way to London.

"Well I know for a fact I'll be in Slytherin. My entire family were Slytherin. Every one of us. I for one would be embarrassed to be placed in any other house. I mean could you just imagine being in any other house." Draco's voice caught my attention again. He sneered and judged all others who were different from him and found amusement in it. It was revolting. Crabbe and Goyle laughed along with Draco and I knew that I had to get out of there before I was seen with such a disgustingly ignorant person.

I stood up without a word and started for the door, "Where do you think you're going?" questioned Draco. I huffed, sliding through the door and stepping out into the corridor which was surprisingly still quite busy.

"Oh please, why would anyone other then those blockheads want to be around you? Seriously, you think you're going to make friends with an attitude like that? Educate yourself, Malfoy." And with that I slammed the door shut and walked into the first compartment that I saw and thought was empty, not wanting to be seen by Draco again.

I turned, thinking that the compartment was empty but to my surprise a girl my age was sat with her nose in a book. I was surprised that she hadn't looked up to ask me to leave or ask why I was disrupting her.  She was a small framed girl with darker skin and freckles dusting her nose. Her hair that was falling down around her face was curled so perfectly that not the tiniest curling iron could have had the same affect. Perched on her nose was a pair of glasses, she seemed very into her reading.

"Oh I'm so sorry, I just walked in assuming it was empty." I seemed to have startled her because she jumped and almost dropped her book. Her hand grabbed at her chest, her brown eyes shocked. "Oh my god, you almost gave me a heart attack." She started laughing and put her book down, removing her glasses.

"Sorry again. I'm Valeria Diggory, first year." I smiled, sitting down across from her and extending my hand for her to shake.
My nerves calmed down, she seemed like a really nice girl. Maybe I finally have made a friend.
"I'm Mable Dankworth, I'm a first year too. It all seems almost too foreign don't you think? I mean until now I had no idea this place even existed." She shook my hand, smiling back kindly. Maybe she was thinking she'd made a friend too.

"Oh I've always known about this place. I grew up in the wizarding world." I sat back in my seat, letting my muscles relax. I'd finally made a friend, and a good one too. "Oh lucky, you wouldn't believe the look on my mum's face when I got my letter. Wouldn't look at me for ages, thought it was all voodoo she did. That was until more and more letters came and she came around to it." We laughed along with each other.

We spent the rest of the train journey laughing and learning knew things about each other. Night was beginning to fall and we still hadn't stopped talking. It was like we just clicked. Hogwarts wasn't going to be so bad after all, I guess.
