Wade's POV
I've been ignoring the hospital's messages on my machine.
"Mr. Wilson, the patient Peter Parker, has woken up from his coma and therefore we need to discuss a new payment plan in regards to his rehab. Please call us when you have the time."
"Mr. Wilson, this is Dr. Eddon Brown, Peter Parker's surgeon. He's woken up about 14 hours ago,and I wanted to ask you how you'd like to proceed with his treatment. Please call me when you get this."
"Wade, it's Kelly. I know you're dating my brother now, but I thought you should know... When Peter woke up yesterday, he asked for you, the first thing he said. I don't want you to hurt Stanley, of course, but Peter is going to be hurting if you don't come... Are you there? Ok. Call me back."
"Wade, it's Kelly again-"
"Wade-,"
"It's-"
"Kelly-"
"It's Dr. Brown-"
"This is the final phone call we'll make before we begin bill the card we have on file-"
I grabbed the phone and punched the answer.
"I don't care about Peter Parker!" I shout, and I start screaming unintelligently until my throat goes raw, my head starts to spin and my eyes go fuzzy. I hold my breath until I feel my lungs burn and tears run down my face and I have to bite my lip to keep from taking a breath. I stay sitting on the edge of my bed, staring up at my ceiling light, for as long as I can before-
I slip off the mattress, knocking my head on the floor.
Everything goes black.
You don't care, huh?
You don't deserve him you goddamn liar.
Where is Death? I've missed him.
"Over here." I hear his voice and I float through the darkness towards it.
"Hello." I wrap my arms around his chest and hold on tightly. "Can I stay the night?"
"Not this time, Wade Wilson, although I have missed your visits."
"I've had more reason but less time." I pause, still holding him so that I don't have to look at his face. I haven't looked at his face in years. "Why can't I just stay?" I whisper.
"You know I'd like to keep you. But that Stanley fellow, and your boxes? They would miss you more than I do, which is nearly impossible." Death chuckles softly. "Peter would miss you the most."
"He wouldn't miss me. We were dating for a day when he-" my voice cracks. "And I abandoned him for my own selfish... whatever reason I had."
"You were afraid to get hurt again. You thought he'd never wake up."
"But now he is awake and I'm not with him... He probably hates me." Death starts to become less tangible.
"Wait, please! I have more to tell you?" I sob, my arms passing through him instead of resting on his back.
"Oh, Wade..." He gives me a numb kiss on the top of my head. "I already know.""Wade?" someone is crying and shouting. "Wade, please wake up... please please wake up..."
"Stanley?" I slowly start to recognise the voice. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh thank god." He pulls me into a tight hug. "I thought you died."
"Impossible, remember?" I realize that I'm talking like I normally would. "Wait, I feel..." I smiled at him. "Refreshed? I guess I needed that." I laugh and give Stanley a kiss. "Sorry to worry you baby."
"You-Are you nuts?" He slaps me across the face, taking me by surprise. "You died you asshole, and you expect me to just..." He shoves me away.
"Stanley, what-"
"I can't do this, Wade!" He laughs, running his hands through his hair. "I know you don't actually like me, you-you're in love with this boyfriend in a coma, and I'm just a backup until he wakes up!"
"Stan-"
"No! You killed yourself Wade! And then you just woke up! That's not normal!"
"And I'm sorry-"
"No you're not, you're refreshed, that's what you are." He shakes his head. "I think we should break up."
"Stanley, Peter woke up yesterday."
"Peter-" He looks at me in shock. "He's awake?"
"And I'm not breaking up with you just because he's awake..." I take a deep breath and the refreshed feeling disappears as I realize what I have to do. "I know we haven't been together very long, but would you maybe want to marry me?"Peter POV
"Good morning Kelly." I croak. "Is Wade here?"
"Not today, Peter, but we did manage to get him on the phone today."
"Really?" I try to sit up but she pushes me down. "What did he say?"
"He said..." She looks contemplative. "He'll come when he can."
"Alright." I sigh. "I can wait."
"So, tell me about being Spiderman." She asks casually. "Is swinging around as much fun as it looks?"
"More fun." I cough sadly. "But I guess I can't do that anymore."
"Not as Spidey, no. Too dangerous with villains and everything..." Her soft southern accent is relaxing, and if I wasn't afraid to close my eyes, it would put me to sleep. "Doesn't mean Peter Parker can't have some fun." She adds. "When he's all healed, that is."
"Thank you..." I choke on some water she pours through my chapped lips. "But how much is this all going to cost? I'm a student and I got evicted from my apartment... I lost my job before the accident..."
"Don't worry about the money dear, your fees are covered." She pats my forehead with a dampt towel.
"What? I don't have insurance or anything... My dads?"
"No honey, but they asked us not to tell you who it was."
"Please Kelly." I swallow hard, feeling sleepier by the second. "I need to know who to thank." And then it hits me.
"Wade?" I whisper as I slip into darkness again.
