Prince Charred was pacing back and forth wondering what had happened to the two squads he had sent to Gravel Switch and Bottomless Pit. Half out loud, but more to himself, "Where are those two, they should be back by now." He continued to pace until a bat came in.
"Lord Charred, Gravel Switch was disserted, every home, store, building, and storage space was searched, there were no residents."
"What! Impossible! Don't tell me that old fool actually warned the villages that war would be coming. But he couldn't possibly know I planned on coming during the cold season, could he?" Shaking his head, "No, he isn't that bright. All my instructors said I was the best tactician they had ever seen; that I was even better than old Potty Pants himself." A grin crept over his face. "Go to Bottomless Pit and tell them to stay where they are, more troops will be arriving in a sun or two, and they are to then march on to the castle."
The bat bowed, "Sire, may I rest and eat before I leave with your message?"
Charred became flushed with anger, "NO! Get something to eat and take it with you, you can rest once you have delivered my message. Now GET OUT!" The bat bowed again and left thinking, "It would be so very much easier if I just bit you and ended your plans. Lucky for him I'm not in the Assassin League, nor can I afford their rates."
