The Dragon Council was assembled to listen to Maria's request from King Gauldarn concerning the upcoming war. The only one not yet in attendance was the head of the Council, Egbert.

The Council chamber was very large and surprisingly ornate. Hundreds of years in the past Troll craftsmen transformed the chamber from a dirty and musty cave, into what it was now. Smooth stone floor and walls, with a ceiling of solid rock way above even the dragon's heads; it had to be large to accommodate the dragons. The last time the chamber was used, was at the beginning of The Great War of Long Ago, and now, again, they must decide whether to remain neutral, or choose a side. Last time they remained neutral, but now things were different, and the Council was divided on what to do.

As everyone was getting restless, Egbert came in. The dragons all stood quietly as Egbert made his way to his spot in front of the council. When Egbert sat down the assembled dragons also sat or laid down. Egbert was an elegant dragon with gold scales, a long tail with small ridges running down the tail. "I've just come from the fairies, and they feel Prince Charred should not be allowed to take the throne, and has encouraged us to do everything in our power to stop him. While his plans appear to be very vengeful, I want each Council member to present their thoughts on the matter. We'll start on the left and go from there."

The first to speak was an ancient black dragon, "I know that two of my brothers have sided with Prince Charred, which I think is a mistake. While I agree with the fairies, it seems to me that a neutral position would be best. We can always intervein later if need be."

The second dragon rose, "If we don't side with King Potts, I'm afraid Prince Charred will scorch the land just as the humans did in the land now called Nowhere. That was once a beautiful land where everyone lived in peace until the humans decided they wanted it all for themselves. That war turned the land into a barren land where no animal, not even we dragons could live. I am concerned that Prince Charred is so stubbornly determined to become King that he will destroy the Troll Kingdom just to spite his father." The dragon then laid down.

It was now the third dragon's turn, "I see no reason to get involved in the affairs of trolls, or elves, or humans, or any other race. If they want to destroy each other, well . . . they are entitled to make stupid decisions. I say stay neutral."

The fourth dragon didn't move a muscle, he slightly turned his head to face the golden dragon, "Prince Charred is . . . well, let me put this as delicately as possible . . . Charred is a baby in a grown-up body. He's immature, reckless, self-centered, and doesn't care about anyone or anything other than himself. My position is simple, let's just go to Prince Charred and eat him; I'm sure most of the Troll Kingdom wouldn't object." He gave a snort of indignation and returned his head to its original position.

The fifth and final dragon stood, this dragon was a young female, but what made her so unique is that she was pure white. There hadn't been a pure white dragon in centuries, and legend had it that white dragons were very courageous, brave, and wise. It was because of this legend that Gabby was invited to join the council. "I have not been on the council long, and am not sure if my counsel will be well received or not. We were neutral in the Great War of Long Ago, and I believe that was a mistake; we could have prevented, or at least stopped the humans from their continued destruction if we had simply stepped up and confronted them. Had we done so, I believe that land would not be in the woeful condition it is currently. We need to take a stand one way or the other. I have heard many very good things about this young elf Leaf the Nice, and it would be a tragedy if Prince Charred is able to have him killed. And not just a tragedy for the Land of Elf, but for Trolls, Humans, gnomes, bats, and even dragons. I have talked with the Oracle Mickey, who has met the elf, and while the future is fluid, he sees great and wonderful possibilities for this young elf. In addition, I visited the Wizard Thorn Berry; he too feels that Leaf the Nice could be important to all the lands. He plans on visiting Charred in the disguise of an old peddler to get a better understanding of his intent and plans. But we cannot wait for his analysis, war is but suns away, we must act . . . and act with conviction. I would love to see the land now called Nowhere restored one day, but that won't happen if Charred wins his war. I regret that I must agree with my cousin, we should just eat Charred and be done with it."
