Dawuni rushed to her. Monique  lay in a awkward position  , a  glass lying beside her, its contents wetting the expensive carpet

He quickly checked her pulse. It was very faint. Dawuni immediately called the ambulance and started doing CPR.
He employed every technique he had learnt during first aid training, but it was useless.

The ambulance arrived minutes later and the paramedics wheeled her in. Dawuni told them them everything he knew and they assured him that she was in capable hands.

He locked the place hurriedly and followed them in his car. The blue Nissan rogue tailing the ambulance like a chick after its mother.

Dawuni waited in the corridor of the ICU with an impatience akin to an expectant father. He paced up and down, praying that Monique would make it.

Not just because he needed information from her but because despite her sassiness and attitude, Monique was still a human being.

Dawuni waited and waited, watching the long minutes turn into hours. Finally, the doctor came out, a tired look on his face .

"Doctor, is she alright,?" Dawuni asked , tensely.

"Are you a family member of the patient?" The doctor asked. He didn't want to give out patient information to a total stranger.

"Actually, I'm a friend." Dawuni replied, not sure if he was lying or not.

The doctor nodded." We've managed to stabilize her and she's out of danger. We also found traces of cyanide in her system. Unfortunately, she lost her baby."
