Gon stepped out of the ship, the sea breeze meeting him as if welcoming him home. He smiled at the familiar scent of the sea, the glistening waves, and the voice of the folks off on their morning bantering and bickering.

"Hey Gon!" yelled one of the fisherman who caught a glimpse of Gon walking out of the ship.

"Hato oji-san!" said Gon as he wave his hands towards the old fisherman.

As soon as the other people heard Gon's name, they all gathered around him, each of them welcoming him home and congratulating him for his recent feat during the hunter's battle with the chimera ants.

Gon rubbed the back of his head and smiled a bit embarrassed. He didn't know that the news regarding the chimera ant battle reached his hometown, Whale island. But then again, his hometown is a port where different ships and fishermen lands. It figures that its only a matter of time before the news reached his home.

"You should hurry up to your aunt Mito, she's been worried sick as soon as she heard the news" said one of the residents.

Gon gulped, he completely forgot about Mito's reaction. He shuddered as he imagined the yelling he will receive from Mito. He would rather battle chimera ants anytime than face the wrath of his aunt.

Gon sighed dejected. He can still go back to the ship right? It's not too late...

'Pfft, you're such a scaredy-cat Gon' he heard Killua's teasing voice in his mind, fighting his own conscience.

"Yosh!" Gon yelled and slapped his cheeks to get him back on track.

Gon bid farewell to the other residents and made his way towards his house which is on top of the cliff.

Aunt Mito was busy hanging the laundry when he saw Gon walking towards the house. She stopped on her tracks and lets go of the laundry letting it fall on the ground.

She ran towards Gon, kneeled in front of him, and pulled the boy in a tight embrace. All the fear that she felt when she heard the news regarding Gon's near-death situation enveloped her making her very emotional.

"G-gon..." she said, her voice muffled by her tears.

"I'm so glad you're safe"

Gon was a bit surprised too. He expected a yelling not aunt Mito hugging him. He smiled and hugged her back. He closed his eyes and buried his head in aunt Mito's neck as he whispered soothing words to his aunt to calm her down.

"I'm home aunt Mito"

Gon sat in front of the table gobbling up the food prepared by aunt Mito to celebrate his arrival in whale island. All of the favorite dishes of Gon were cooked by his aunt.

"I sure missed your cooking aunt Mito" he said in between hurried bites.

Aunt Mito sat on a chair opposite of Gon and watched him with a fond smile.

"Slow down, the food is not going anywhere" said his great grandmother as she sipped her coffee.

"So... Gon, have you met your father?". Aunt Mito asked the question she has been curious about since he arrived.

"Yeah, we talked about our adventures and stuff, then I fell asleep on top of the world tree. When I woke up I'm in a room and Ging already left." he said, his tone neither happy nor disappointed.

He said it as if a father disappearing the next day is a perfectly normal thing to happen. Well, in Gon's case, it is normal because his father left him when he was young.

"You mean, he just left you? Just like that?" Aunt Mito clutched her fist tightly, clearly angry with Ging.

"That good-for-nothing-father! The next time I see Ging, he will definitely received a good beating" she yelled angrily, veins visible on her forehead.

'If looks could kill, Ging would be long dead' , thought Gon as he watched his aunt fuming with anger.

He stood up and massaged his aunt's shoulders, calming her down and leading her back to her chair. Once everything calmed down, he sat back down.

"Ging did left his contact number and a note saying that he'll be going on an expedition in 3 months.", he said with a smile.

Aunt Mito waited for Gon to continue his story. "And? Have you called him already?"

"Not yet"

"Hmm... Don't you want to go with Ging on his adventure?", aunt Mito asked.

Gon stopped mid bite, his expression changing as he stared at his hands, his nen not visible anymore. When he woke up from being in a life and death situation, he found out that he can not use Nen anymore.

It must be an effect for over exerting his nen. He returned to his normal self. A hunter unable to use Nen will surely not be of any help to Ging.

"I won't go" Gon said after awhile.

Aunt Mito wanted to ask why he won't go, but she stopped herself when she noticed the sad expression on Gon's face. She knew Gon as a child with a happy personality, seeing him with a sad face breaks her heart.

She cleared her throat and clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. "Well, that's fine too! You deserve a rest after your battle. Take your time to think things through. Besides, its Ging's turn to wait for you too."

Aunt Mito smiled at Gon.

"Thanks aunt Mito" said Gon softly and he smiled back.
