After a little time on the road, we stopped to check out wreck that was blocking the road.
My car door creaked when I got out, and put my hand on my gun holster, ready for anything.
"What the-" I said quietly.
There was a police cruiser, it's lights still flashing, the driver no where to be found.
On the other side of the road was an electric utility truck, all of its crew scattered around, lying dead with shotgun bullets to the head.
"The hell killed these people?" Asked Dean.
I shrugged, then squatted down next to onw of the bodies, grabbing my pocket knife.
The man was wearing a nice shirt, meaning he had to be the manager or something like that. His collar was all ruffled up, so with out using the blade, I used the pocket knife to move it to the side.
"Gu-"
"Don't move!" Said a female voice, interrupting me with the sound of a shotgun cocking.
"Put your hands up! And you, drop the knife!"
I slowly put my pocket knife on the ground, then put my hands up and turned around.
Next to the cruiser was petite woman who could only have been a year or two younger than me. She had dark brown hair to the point that it was almost black, and bright blue eyes.
"Show me your necks," she said.
"What? Why do y-" Dean started to say.
"Dean, shut up and do what she says, then I can show you."
There was a flicker of amusement in tue woman's eyes, but it quickly went away.
"Now," she said.
Sam and Dean both moved the collars of their flannels, and I moved my braided hair out of the way so she could see all of my neck.
"See? No black veins. Now your turn," I said, gesturing to the high collar of her uniform.
She kept the shotgun in one hand, then used her other to loosen her collar, revealing normal veins.
"What's this about black veins?" Sam asked.
I gestured to the body, and the woman lowered the gun, sighing.
"There was this crazy fog that hit town- I was inside when it happened, but then there was a call out here, and when I came they all tried to attack me. Something turned their veins black and made them insane. They tried to kill me," she said, moving her beige, uniformed shirt to the side, revealing a huge gash.
"Shit, are you okay?" I asked.
She shrugged, then winced.
"Okay, my name's Jupiter, and this is Sam and Dean," I said, gesturing to the boys.
"Jenna," said the woman.
"Alright Jenna, is there some place where we can get you fixed up?" Asked Dean.
She nodded. "There's a hospital a few miles up the road, but it's in the heavily populated part of town...."
I looked over at Dean.
"Which car is faster- Baby, or mine?" I asked.
"Baby, Duh," Dean said, rolling his eyes.
I crossed my arms. "Really? Drop your ego and your love for the car, and answer me truthfully. We can't take both. They would attract to much attention."
Dean clenched his jaw, knowing I was right.
"Yours- but only because Baby got roughed up in that pothole."
"Okay. Sam, help Jenna into the backseat 9f my car. Dean and I will get the stuff from Baby," I said, then headed off towards the Impala.
Dean followed suit, and popped open the trunk, while I grabbed the bags from the backseat, then brought then to him.
We started to load the bags with the basics, then threw in a few extras.
"Dean," I said, looking into his eyes.
"Yeah?"
"How do you feel? Like physically?" I asked, wanting to make sure he was okay.
He shrugged. "I've got a crook in the neck, but that's about it. Arm doesn't even hurt. But how I am doesn't matter- are you okay?" He asked.
I nodded. "Yeah. A litrle tired, and I had a panic attack when I couldn't find you or Sam in the woods. But now I just want to figure out what the hell made these people go bonkers- obviously it's connected to the Darkness, but what if it can be spread without the fog? What happens if you or Sam gets it?" I asked, releasing worries I didn't even know I had.
Dean chuckled, then pecked me on the lips. "Raiye, we're all gonna be fine. So just relax a little. I'm here safe, and so is Sammy. We're just gonna do what we do and save some people."
I sighed, knowing he was right. Then I smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you," I said.
"I know," he said.
I chuckled. "Look at you, pulling a Solo."
He shrugged, then handed me my pocket knife.
"Here. You almost left it. It's not like pure silver pocket knives grow on trees."
I grabbed it and thanked him, theb headed over to my Mustang so we could get Jenna to the hospital.
