Rachel convinced me, we were going to Camp Half Blood. As I made breakfast she showered and I showered as she packed and made an Iris message. I took three tubes of dust and all of my gear. I'm not home often so I keep things light. After we made the way out of my little fortress and into the snow covered street we stopped by a frozen lake and watched as some little girls ice skated and some boys played hockey, not very well albeit. "Frank would be disappointed." Commented Rachel. "He is a fanatic and a pro." I keep hearing about these seven but I've only met two, Percy and Anabeth, I was there for their wedding. They don't know this of course, I was in a tree. I've also met DiAngelo on the road once between camps Half Blood and Jupiter. We watched for a few minutes and kept moving, we were in no hurry to get back to the bustle of camp life, and I was not going to stay long enough to get involved. We strolled until about eleven and sat down to eat. We made a small barrier out of the snow as if that would protect us from anything that wanted to get past. Just after lunch I spread some of the monster dust from the bottle on me and kept walking. "What in the Hell did you do that for?" Rachel asked. "It keeps the monsters from locking onto my scent." I replied. She nodded slightly and we marched on with our packs a little lighter than when we left. Eventually we saw the crest of Half Blood Hill and sat down together for a time. "I don't want to go into there, there is nothing for me." I said softly to Rachel, "I have no family there, no one close to me there but you." She looked at me with emotion I couldn't identify in them, "Do you need anything more than that? You have me, and I have you. We can make it like that, it's good enough for me." I wish I could say something to that but nothing would come, I guess Prometheus works long term but I needed some thing now. From somewhere within me I conjured up a reply. "I think I could be good with that too." She smiled, her grin getting wider every second. "That's it Jack, give in to that source, Tap into that until it's dry." I searched for the origin of that comment but was empty on its sender address. I just went instinct and reached out and felt her hand lying in the snow, I wrapped my hand around hers and did not let go. She rested her hand on top of mine, and there was peace, until the arrow slammed into her shoulder and she went flying across the field. I leaped up already palming three crescents as I turned to face my attacker. It was one of the Hunters of Artemis. "Damned cloak. Come scorn of the moon, you are to face your fate with honor, lay down your weapons." "I highly doubt that you unrighteous bitch. How bout you keep your heterosexual phobias to yourself and tell me your base number." I called back, switching to my imperial gold crescent. "You have already walked through the realm of Hades and come back, I will end you once and for all pig they call a man." I was snapping at this, my almost sister with an arrow ready to go through my throat and knowing how to keep me dead. I threw my crescent at her with just a flick of my wrist and fell backwards, hiding under the snow. I heard her cry of pain as three of the five hit their marks. I also saw an arrow flying in an odd trajectory above my head getting lost in the woods around the camp. I drew my Stygian sword laced with imperial gold just as she leaped towards me in a last desperate attempt at ending me, I ran her through watching as the very life draining out of her eye sockets. I felt cool relive flush through my systems like a drug. I realized it immediately. "Rachel..." I called my call faltering when I realized that she had been shot by the bitch huntress. I jogged over to see if she was alright but saw something different. She had the arrow logged into her shoulder and she was face first into the ground. I checked her pulse and felt the erratic beating of her heart. I picked her up and carried her up the hill into Camp Half Blood. It was about mid day and so not many people were around the east side of the camp. I saw a member of the Apolo cabin nearby and I walked up to him to transfer care to the medical team. He was speaking to a boy not a year younger than him. The dark haired boy said. "Will, I think you are needed." The boy identified as Will turned around and gasped that I had gotten so close so quietly with a body. "He's almost as scary as you Nico." Will remarked and I remembered instantly, I've seen this kid before. Once in between Camp Jupiter and Half Blood. He was a son of Hades I think. Will takes the body and gets her on a stretcher from the front of the cabin, just under the overhang. The sky begins to darken and thunder begins to rumble. A look of terror flashes across Nicos face and he runs up the hill yelling a name I cannot make out, but it was to late. A bolt of lightning arcs from the sky into the hill in the center of camp and seems to reflect towards me, hitting me square in the chest. I feel the pain as I go flying almost out of the camp and some of the Ares cabin kids run to me in full battle dress. I sit up to a phalanx of celestial bronze swords and only about a third of my shirt left. Nico runs up and stands in the way of me and the swords. "He is safe." He says simply. The campers seem to believe him but keep blades close at hand. A Hephaestus child runs up to me, sweat drenching her long dark hair. "Sorry Jack, I didn't realize it was you. We had a breach the other week, someone walked right through our barrier. It dosen't help though that you were carrying our prophet in your arms as you walked in. That girl you sent to us arrived, I sent someone to go get her. She wanted to turn around and immediately search for you but we were able to convince her to stay with the promise of food sleep and anything she could wish for to drink. She said her father is Notos, that is not a good sing for our farms. That is the south wind and he is feared among many, but she seems pretty harmless, especially because she is a vegetarian and a pacifist. Sophie is what her name is, but she also seemed to be one of the Riley girls, who is she and why are all of them girls?" These were questions I had no answers to. I decided to change the subject momentarily, " Do you have anything for me?" She nodded quickly and jogged off to her cabin and another kid runs out with a large box, about a three by five by three. Nico looked at it oddly, he the shifted his gaze to my backpack which had no physical capability to hold it all. Ahhhhhh, I love hammer space. The goddess of both the hunts and crafts and with Apollo as an uncle really helps maximize space. My backpack can hold tremendous amounts of matter and not overflow or get to heavy. I sorted what was in the box into my backpack, while it is better than anything else it is not limitless in ability. It can only hold what can fit inside the pouch and only in the main pocket. It can also not give you exactly what you want and has a slight cool off time of how much you take out of the bag. I had my fill and just turned away when I heard running at me and gales of wind spike through my hair. Sophie ran up to me with a smile from ear to ear. "I've been so exited to meet you, oh my god, or I guess oh my gods now that there are more of them than I'm used to I just didn't feel right as a catholic but that's fine now it explains why I'm dyslexic but I'm also ADHD but people say that's normal around here especially the Hephaestus kids but that's okay because there is so much cool stuff here and the wind called my name and almost blew out the fire it also almost set the camp on fire but this is the wind of unluck not luck there is a slight problem with that but that's fine because I'm the child of a god like by direct blood not just some crazy heritage thing but..." I cut her off as soon as the chance arose, "Will you ever come up for air or will you just babble about this until the gods die of age?" She looked disappointed that I killed her moment but I was definitely not taking her with me. I agreed to speak with her and I just did that. "I will go check on our prophet now." I said to Nico and Sophie. I turned to go into the great house. I walked to the med bay and saw them arguing about something and I new exactly what the problem was. "...but the blood is not found, it has the consistency of Ichor." "Well the closest thing we have to that is nectar but that's inky if you want to turn her insides into a blast furnace. What we could do is..." "I have her blood type!" I called out. They hadn't noticed me enter the room and one threw their clipboard in the air with a slight yelp. The one that had not leaped thirty feet into the air answered, "Well we need to verify but you may be the one shot that we have." The reasoning behind this is that when my mother killed her mother that she got a cut and that the blood mixed, her mother was pregnant and Hermes came and saw her dying and helped her deliver the child and gave her to a mortal man to raise. My blood is not only that of a demigod but also of a race that is said to descend from Titans, we have given blood to each other in the past, in fact at this injury rate we might be half our own blood and the other half the others. I said a prayer for her to Apollo and Prometheus and took my leave, the nurses had to deal with her on their own with space. I got back out and it seemed like everything had been turned back to normal. Campers were milling around and it looked like I was normal. Well except for the major scaring and full weaponry equipped but you know, a work in progress. I decided to head back to my "cabin". My cabin was more of a shrine with a few bedrolls and my mother staring down at most of the cabin. I set up my little bunker in a small nook behind the shrine. On occasion the Huntresses would sleep in the cabin when passing through the area, just another reason that I chose not to sleep in the main area where my more permeate items of value are not stolen and destroyed. I was setting down my pack when a voice behind me said, "I believe that we have a consensus on the quality of the Huntresses." I spun around and pulled a sword to the throat of Nico, children of Hades are always sneaky like that. "I would believe that we do, the bitches of Artemis are always so self righteous that they forget that they to have losses. I know that they do, i walked through New York that day, I saw the deaths and the wounded. They have more than they would let on." He said not even flinching at the blade drawn up to his throat. I knew it to, but I have also caused some of them. "I'm the one your family brought back." I said and his eyes widened and he began to quiver, I pulled the sword away from his throat and he almost fell to his knees. "You the one we saved, can you show me her." He said, his voice wavering. I could but it would not be comfortable for any of us. I had to go with. "You don't know the price Angelo, this will..." He cut me off with tears almost past his eyes."I have marched through Tartarus to find her and you question my willingness to pay the cost? What do you know about cost when you parade around the country side with your born with skills and enchanted weaponry, swords blessed by bloody Hephaestus for Hera's sake, you say I can't pay the cost?!" He screams at me tears leaking now,"You have this amazing skill you know, when I started I walked onto a battle field with Mythomagic cards, a children playing card and you think you know al this about the price? You say you can but..." I cut him off there, by stabbing him through the gut.
