Chapter 21 - Memories

I stay outside with Meliodas until he begins to yawn and I feel myself slowly drifting off to sleep. We have layed down on the roof and had looked up at the stars for the past few minutes but now I get back up into a sitting position and grab the empty mug from my friend. "We should head inside, Meliodas" I say softly and he yawns again but then nods and stands up. He reaches out his hand to help me stand up as well and we jump down the roof of the tavern and enter it downstairs. Meliodas heads downstairs to join Elizabeth whilst I clean the two mugs quickly before heading upstairs as well.
But when I lay down in my bed, I can't fall asleep. My mind wanders back to Zeldris and everything that has happened. New tears form in my eyes by the thought of his memories returning and that I had to leave him again.

I wake up early morning from a very short sleep and head downstairs to make breakfast for the four of us. Hawk enters the kitchen and sniffs around. "Good morning, Yami. This smells good!"

"Good morning, Hawk. Please, don't be fooled. I'm afraid my cooking skills are close to Meliodas'."

"Oh dear god, please no" he sighs. "I already miss Ban."
But I place down a bowl of food for him. "Just try it anyways?" I beg. Hawk walks closer to it and smells at the food. "Mh.. doesn't smell bad" he says and carefully takes a bite. "Yum!" he exclaims. "That's so much better than the Captains food!" he says happily and goes to take another mouth full.

"Who is blaspheming about my cooking skills?" I hear Meliodas ask, who is also entering the kitchen. "It took me a long time to build up the good reputation of the Boar Hat!"

I look up at my friend with a smile but then see that Elizabeth is right behind him and I start to feel insecure again. No matter what Diane or Meliodas say, I feel guilty for what happened to Elizabeth, even tho I have to admit she looks even more stunning with her old look. The way she wears her hair now makes her look more grown up and there's no hint of any insecurances anymore. "Good morning, you two" I say and hold out two plates of food. "I tried to cook for you."

"I love that you said you tried" says Meliodas giggling and takes the plates from me, not failing to cheer me up.

"Mind some company?" Meliodas asks me and places a mug of ale in front of me.

I smile at him as I grab the ale. "You know, I can't wait to have another come together with your friends sometime soon."

"They're not just my friends, Yami. They're yours as well, now." 

"That's what you wanted to tell me?" I ask and raise an eyebrow at my friend and he chuckles.

"Of course not. I just wanted to spend some time with you before you leave again."

"Meliodas, the longest time I was gone was for two days. I'm barely leaving you and Elizabeths side anymore" I say giggling.
It was nothing but the truth. We have come closer to the kingdom shortly after our debate and Meliodas and I leave the Boar Hat a lot of times to fight against the demons that are trying to attack the kingdom and they're still getting more every day. As for Elizabeth, we still keep her under cover as much as possible to protect her, even if she is so much stronger now.

"I want to make sure you're doing fine. You've been really quiet lately."

"Well, this whole war isn't that easy."

"I know" he says and sighs. "I hate fighting them, too. But we're getting closer to the end."

"You think so?" I ask and he nods.

"There are coming more demons each day, which means the Commandments are getting stronger each day. It won't take long until they'll try to overthrow the throne. Actually, I'm surprised they haven't tried already. Don't you think so?"
