Retaking the test

Kaminari starts to get feelings in this chapter. Enjoy :)

Kaminaris pov

It took a while for the rest of the dorm to slowly wake up and feed their way into the common room. Midoriya was first, earning a sneer from Bakugo, then Ururaka, who sat right next to Midoriya. But I mean, were we expecting anything else?

The last person out is Todoroki, who weaves through all the people to go sit next to Midoriya. He's taken a real liking to the boy, I've even seen him crack a few small smiles. It's like me and shinso.

I feel the warm feeling in my stomach come back as I think about how I made shinso my friend. He hasn't really talked to anyone else, and as much as I want to introduce him to all my friends, I also want to keep him to myself. It makes me feel pretty special that he wants to hang out with me, that he chose me to let into his life.

The warm feeling spreads from my stomach to my chest to my face. I must be bright red.

"Bro are you ok?" Kirishima asks with a laugh.

"Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine. I think I'm gonna go early to class, maybe ask Aizawa some questions."

"Haha, sure." He doesn't believe that's what I'm going to do, but I am. The room's also starting to feel a bit hot.

"I'll come with you," shinso says, standing up and offering his hand, which I take, and he heaves me off the couch (I don't know how to explain it, but it's a super friendly act, it's not like 'lovey dovey hand holding' just wanted to clarify)

"Ok, see ya," Kirishima waves at us while turning around to talk to Bakugo. I swear those two are joined at the hip.

"Let's gooooooo." I grab Shinso's wrist and drag him out to the front of the dorms. The wind hits my face and I hope that it cools down my face enough to make the red go away.

We start walking to the dorms. I've learned that Shinso likes silence, and for some reason any silence with him is comfortable.

"Are you going to let go?"

I look down and realise that I'm still holding his wrist, but my hand's slipped down, so I'm now holding the back of his hand.

I quickly let go and laugh, but I can feel my face going red again.

"Sorry man, I got distracted."

"It's fine." He looks down at the ground. "So what are you going to talk to Mr Aizawa about?

"Well, I'm going to ask if I can re-take the science test from two weeks ago. I got a really bad grade because I didn't understand any of the basics, but now that you've explained it to me, I think I can get a much better mark."

Shinso's pov

If he smiled any brighter, I would have been blinded.

"Do you think he'll let you? Retake the test I mean."

His smile faltered. Dang it, I didn't mean to do that.

"I don't know. But it can't hurt to try right?"

I smile at him. "Right." He returns with a bigger grin. Why does he do that. It's almost like me smiling is a good thing.

Flashback

"Hey look, it's the villain!"

"Haha, he's got weird hair."

"Can we not go over there he's scaryyyy."

"I don't think he's scary." A girl with blue hair walks over and pats my shoulder.

It makes me smile. She stood up for me.

"Ahh! He smiled, he's planning to kill one of us!"

The girl stays by my side, but takes he hand off my shoulder and looks hesitant. What's left of my smile falls.

Looks like she is scared of me, despite what she said.

End flashback

I look down at the ground from embarrassment. I consciously know that he likes me as his friend, but there's always that nagging voice in the bag of my head that tells me otherwise.

Kaminaris pov

I felt so proud when I made him smile. It's not a very big smile, more of a soft smile, an unconsciously-happy sort of smile. He's so somber all the time, I think it's good enough. He has a nice smile. But then he look a bit distracted and the smile drops off his face.

I'm about to say something but we're at UA now, and there are people around us again. He might not want to talk about it with other people around.

He probably doesn't want to talk about it with you around either. You've only known him for a few days. A voice in the back of my head comments, but I ignore it.

"Do you want to come with me or do you have something else to do?"

"No I'll come."

So he came with me just for the sake of coming with me. That's really nice of him. The back of my neck starts to get hot.

"Ok then."

We chat a bit more as we make our way towards the staff room (because that's where you find staff) and knock on the door. Midnight opens it.

"Hello, kaminari, shinso," she nods to us, "what are you doing here so early in the morning?"

"Could I talk to Mr Aizawa please?"

She nods and goes in to fetch him. We sit for a few seconds, and then see Mr Aizawa appear in the doorway, in his yellow sleeping bag.

"What do you want," he grumbles.

"Well, I was wondering if I could retake the science test from two weeks ago."

He looks at me incredulously.

"And what makes you think I'll let you do that."

"Well, I know that my grades are terrible, and I've been trying really hard since the start of the year, but I think I've finally got it and can raise my grades."

"And why can't you wait until the next test to prove yourself?"

"Well, you haven't given us our marks for that test yet, and I really want to start improving as soon as possible."

There's a pause, and for a second I'm hopeful.

"I don't think you can do it," he states.

I feel my heart fall.

"He can." I turn to look at Shinso.

"He got 36% on the test we're currently talking about. You don't suddenly improve when it comes to things like that."

"He can." He looks Aizawa dead in the eyes. I can feel the tension between them as the silence stretches longer and longer.

"Fine," I sigh with relief, "But if the grade isn't better by at least 20%, you both get detention for a month."

"Deal," shinso says.

"Ok then, Kaminari come to the staff room at lunch time, you can retake the test then."

"Thank you Mr Aizawa!" I grin. He nods, then closes the door.

"If I don't get the 20%, I'm sorry for getting you detention."

"Don't worry. You'll get the 20."

"You think so?"

He look at me and smiles again.

"I know so."
