The war progresses without the undertone of wearing out into a stop. It has taken an undesirable inclination. Also, Elise has started college with Lauren. They were inseparable as they were in high school. They meet Nicholas in campus between classes.

She misses home. She misses her mother, Susannah, James, his wife Catherine and little Daphne who just uttered her first word. It had not been easy to explain the shimmering rock on her finger when Matthew driven her home that night. He talked to her mother and brother. By the time they were done, they were fully assured they were not in any matrimonial rush.

Susannah had stared at her ring with her and barely slept.

Lauren admired the ring, telling her that it was just right that their grandfather had given Matthew the ring. She had been thrilled while Nicholas hadn't acknowledged it.

She's wearing the diamond ring for a few months now, but she still had not gotten used to the sight of it, binding the delicate skin of her ring finger. Matthew write to her, every letter just as sweet as the other. His recent letter had stated he's been doing good and that he misses her terribly. He also relayed the good news of him and Lucas being allowed five days leave and that they will come to visit her and Lauren at their dorm.

They had spent his leave making the most of every minute. She meets him in between her classes. They went to see the pictures with Lucas, Lauren and Nicholas every night. Then would hold each other for hours later until morning came. Their kisses were sweeter, their caresses tighter.

On the night before he leaves, Elise didn't have class. They stayed tangled in her sheets, impressing every part of one another in their memories by touch and kisses. Matthew holds her close to his chest and she listens to the beating of his heart.

"Matthew?" She rises to her elbow to take a good look at his face. His hair was damp from all the hours they spent in bed.

"Hmm?" His hand reaches her face, his fingers grazing her cheekbones.

"It will be over soon, right?"

His finger pauses briefly, then resumed caressing her face. "It will."

They held each other's gazes. None of them knew, for sure. No one knew when the war is going to be over. Some says it won't last for a year. She and Matthew believe what they want to believe.

His lips quirked into a small smile, a soft expression on his face. "We'll get married as soon as ends."

She felt her own smile tugging at her mouth. "What do you want to name our children?"

"Well," his smile grew wide. "I want it to be Olivia and Luke."

"You pick really good names." She giggles, leaning over his face so she could kiss him.

He rolled them over, trapping her underneath him. "When all this is over, we can make as many babies as we can."

"You'll come back to me no matter what. I'll wait for you however it takes," she whispers.
