Epilogue

Three Years Later

Lucas enters his penthouse, searching for the woman he'd been missing all day. He stops dead in his tracks when said woman glowered at the sight of him as he enters the kitchen. He thought hard what could've caused the frown on her face and came up nothing. So, he risked another step inside. "Hi, baby."

He dodged a knife before he could even greet her with a smile.

Sebastian, who's been her bodyguard for about three years now, snapped his head toward a furious Sophie.

"Leave us," Lucas instructed.

Sebastian slinked away and left him to face his heavily pregnant wife, holding another knife aimed at him.

He ducked his head as the knife hit the wall like a dart. "Sweetheart, what's wrong?"

"You invited Gabby to my birthday!" She snapped, another knife flying to his direction. "You promised we'll keep him out of this as much as possible." She flicked another knife, this time he caught it.

"Hey, Lucas. There's...ahhhh." His brother Jacob who just made his way inside stared in horror at the knives sticking to the wall. "Caught you at a bad time. Be right back." He took steps backward until he disappeared into the halls.

Lucas shakes his head. "I know, but he begged me to. He wouldn't be there at your birthday party. We'll be having him at our private beach house. There will just be you, Agatha and Gabby. Of course, I'll be there too if you stop trying to kill me with a knife right now."

She dropped a knife on the counter. "He's just eight years old, Lucas. I can't drag him into my life again." Her hands went to her belly.

Protectiveness washes over him. "We're not dragging him. He just wants to celebrate your birthday." He walks around the counter, gathering her in his arms. "I promise I will never put his life in danger."

"Lucas, I'm sorry. Can I decline on the big birthday celebration and just be at the beach house instead?"

"The party was just a ploy. You're never meant to be there. It's not safe for you and our baby. Even with heightened the security, I can't risk having you and our baby caught in the middle of an attack."

"So, we're having the party to make it look like I'm there. Why do I have feeling it's to lure the enemy too?" She raised a perfect brow.

He grinned. "One stone. Two birds, baby."

She relaxed against him. "Keeping me safe. Luring in the enemy."

Lucas pecked at her nose. "Keeping you and our baby and Gabby safe."

She smiles, leaning in to his ear. "Babies."

"What?" He stiffened.

Sophie pulls back an inch. "Our doctor did an ultrasound today."

"You said you didn't want one."

She shrugged. "Changed my mind."

"You just had an ultrasound without me."

Sophie laughs. "But I'm telling you now, aren't I? Two boys."

"Two boys?" He echoed.

"Yes. Are you happy?" She asks, her eyes widening.

He takes her hand in his and kissed her knuckle. "A boy or a girl, I'll be the luckiest man alive."

"But what if we had girls? We both know a boy is more ideal in our world."

"I don't care. We can always make more babies." He dipped his head, seeking her mouth. "I love you and our children. That's all I know."

She lets him kiss her, tangling her fingers in the back of his head. His arms snaked possessively all over her.

He wasn't sure who's holding whom. Or who's being held by whom. But he was certain, everything is at peace when they're in each other's arms.
