Chapter 30: The Accused Ones

Today was the singles round of the Vytal Festival, and boy did these events blow by quick. Right now, the strongest members of each team were the only ones participating, and for some reason I was selected to be my team's representative. Me, Dawei, Mira, Jihan, Sung, Jack, Valentine, Kotori, and Reine were all at the seats watching Yang's fight against Mercury. Yang held the upper hand because she was more determined than Mercury, but Mercury proved to be a tough fight because he used evasive maneuvers more than Yang does.

Yang defended against a roundhouse kick from Mercury before the huntress pinched Mercury away, sending him back. Mercury then send a bullet towards Yang, which she blocked and unintentionally gave Mercury time he needed to form a cyclone of bullets by break dancing...I need to take notes. Either way, every single bullet went toward Yang, but it bounced off as theirs started making her way towards Mercury. Yang activated her semblance and punching Mercury in the stomach, dropping his aura in the red and winning the fight.

Wait what?

I looked at the arena to see Yang walking with her back tired away from Mercury, while the boy stood back on his own two feet. Mercury then started running towards Yang with the intent to kill causing me to get up from my seat and prepare to warp, but Sung held me back and asked what I was doing. I explained to him what was going on as Mercury leapt at Yang. Sung looked at me confused before a gunshot was heard. All of us looked at Yang and Mercury to see Yang standing above Mercury, while the boy grabbed his prosthetic leg, acting like he was hurt.

"Yang Xiao Long, we're gonna have to ask you to come with us." A series of Atlas soldiers ran into the arena and pointed their weapons at Yang, causing a storm to appear above the colosseum.

"What the hell is going on here?" I asked aggressively while summoning [Areadbhar] but then I felt a strong emotion...fear take hold of me and paralyzed me.

[Jack managed to override Gamer's Mind, you are now suffering paralyzing fear as a side effect]

"Let Yang go, damnit." I growled before attempting to crawl, but Jack merely huffed and put me back in my seat and grabbed [Areadbhar] to place the spear down. "What the hell are you guys doing, did you see what happened with Yang?"

"(Y/N), what are you talking about?" Kotori asked in a cold voice, and looking into her eyes showed me that she is genuinely curious about what I'm thinking. "Yang broke Mercury's leg, so she's going to get the proper punishment."

"Are ya'll stupid?" I asked everyone, all of whom just looked at me like I was crazy. "I'm telling you all, Mercury attacked first and Emerald used an illusion to make it look like Yang attacked first."

"Look, even if you were correct, it's your word against thousands of others." Valentine reminded me as I began to get the ability to move back throughout my body.

"Fine, I'll have to prove that she's innocent!" I summoned [Steel Dagger] and threw it at the entrance of the stadium and warped out, trying to think of a way to prove she's innocent.

Nothing, I failed Yang.

I had a series of pop-ups in front of me, all of which were from different sources but still displayed the same image. The scene was entirely different from what actually happened, and it didn't even match Yang's character. The scene that was displayed was Yang circling around a seemingly injured Mercury clutching his leg. This Yang appeared sadistic and walked as if she had a superiority complex before shooting Mercury in the leg, and that's when reality and illusion finally mix.
