Christina lay on the floor. She wasn't bothered enough to move from the uncomfortable position she was in. She wasn't bothered enough to do anything.
Except drink.
And drink a lot.
This thought in mind, she raised the bottle of wine to her lips once again. She didn't know what it was, neither did she care much. All that mattered was that it made her feel nothing and took away all the pain. All the memories. Everything.
But now she saw it was empty. All she could do in response to this bad news was give a small groan of displeasure. The only thing her mind was allowing itself to do was create a long list of her favourite cusses to express how unhappy she was with the empty bottle.
Then a very weird thought came to her: This is all Paul's fault! He did this to me! And then: And I did, too. I trusted him!
Paul, her boyfriend, or rather, ex-boyfriend, had been cheating on her. On loads of women! He'd broken too many hearts to count and now she'd been added to his Victim List! It was hitting her hard and she wasn't sure how to cope; this was her first heartbreak she'd ever gone through and she wasn't exactly sure what she should be feeling right now.
Well, at the moment: nothing! Except if you count the anger at the empty bottle and the sad feeling that had taken over when she had just thought Paul just then. And the hurt! Oh, the hurt! Why did it hurt? SO MUCH!
Christina wasn't sure if she could continue anymore. She'd loved Paul - she still did - but he didn't love her anymore. Did he ever?
"Why wasn't I good enough?" she slurred drunkenly to the glass bottle she was still holding. "Why didn't he love me?" Naturally, the bottle didn't answer.
She sighed. How am I going to get through this? Will I ever get through this?
--- 3 months later ---
Christina strolled through town with her friend, Keltie Knight, talking and laughing. She was finally starting to fully recover from her breakup with Paul and Keltie was helping her get through it all. Right from the first moment, Keltie had been there for Christina and she would continue to be for as long as it took. Even when Christina would eventually get back on her feet, she'd still be there if she was needed.
They stopped now in front of a coffee shop, looking in from the large window at the front of the building, eyeing the amount of available tables.
"Looks pretty full," Christina said. That was true; there was only one table left and that was about to be taken by a family with small children.
"There's a section upstairs," Keltie said, "And I know the owner of this place pretty well. He'll find us a spot." She wasn't about to let their day (which had been great so far) get ruined because they couldn't sit down for a few minutes and have a nice slice of cake. Or even two.
Just then Christina froze up on the spot. Her friend looked to where her horrified gaze was directed at and saw Paul sat at the table nearest them with his new girlfriend. Well, new-new-new girlfriend! He just so happened to look up at that moment and caught them staring. He said something to the woman he was with and she looked up at them, then nodded. He got up, made his way to the door of the coffee shop, opened it, and stepped towards the two friends who were still gathered by the window of the place.
