Well I didn't expect to be yelled at.
And he didn't even directed me to my office how rude.I sat in the waiting lobby and did the work that Mr James gave to me.
As I was sitting I realized that the receptionist had traded place with another one. The new receptionist kept looking at me conflicted about god-knows-what.
A full six minutes past and she was still looking at me so I took all the courage I had and asked her
"Is there something wrong?"with the most polite voice I could find.
"No there's n-n-not a pr- problem", she replied stuttering.
"The why are you staring me down?"
"Aren't you Mr James' assistant?"
"Yes and?"
"It's just that I have never seen a black person working here", she replied,"and I was wondering why you are here and not in your office?"
"I'm here because I don't know where my office is", I replied not even commenting on the part about me being black.
"Oh Lisa was supposed to show you to your office but since I'm here now I'll do it",she said hurriedly.
"Ok then?"
"Follow me."
I was wondering why she was the only person to speak to me as a person but it seemed like that was the only shred of respect I was gonna get so I just followed her and tried not to mess it up.
