"She gave you CPR, you know." Carrie said out of the blue as I stared at Elizabeth looking at the calm waters. "I really did drown, huh?" I asked, I sipped my water. "She gave you mouth to mouth." I started coughing in shock. She slapped my back, "You sure want her lips on yours again!" She laughed. "Shut up." I muttered, "So you do want her." She nudged me to spill. "No, I don't!" I said, "Your voice just went five times higher." Carrie stared at me, "Oh and you're staring at her! You're crushing on my best friend!" Carrie fist pumped and laughed. I looked down at the sand, trying not blush. I've been caught red handed. "No, I don't. She doesn't even like me." I managed to say. I hated that truth, all I'll ever be to her is her moron. The person she goes to, the boy who gives her the googly eyes.
"So? You don't know what goes in her mind." Carrie said and got up. She grabbed a volleyball and walked over to Wendy. Elizabeth soon jogged over with her board and sat next to me. "What's up with the long face, moron?" Elizabeth poked my cheek. "I got attacked by a seagull." I lied, "Attacked by a bird again award goes to Cole Pendery." She said in a announcer's voice, trying to make me laugh. "Wanna play volleyball? I promise you, that you will not drown or get knocked out." She said, "That I can actually try and not get killed." I said and got off the towel. We walked over to Carrie and Wendy, "Nick! Trevor! Get your asses over here!" Elizabeth shouted, "Why?" Trevor asked, "We're going to play volleyball!" Wendy said, "YES! I CALL SERVING!" Trevor said and ran over. Nick followed his lead, "Girls vs. Boys!" Carrie said, "But, we can't be separated." I hooked my arm around Elizabeth's arm. "Fine, Nick you'll go with Liz and Cole." We walked onto the other side, Carrie passed Elizabeth the volleyball and she looked like she was about to serve the ball.
She hit it under hand and it went over the net to their side. It went back and forth for a couple minutes until Carrie ran into the net. We played until one team won twenty-five points which was the other team. We were so close to winning, "The sun's setting now, I'm going to set up the fire." Nick said, "I'll go with you. I need to get the s'mores from my car." Elizabeth said, I stared as they walked to the car leaving us. I sighed, maybe she likes Nick? "Jealous much?" Carrie said, "You're practically stabbing Nick with your eyes." She continues, "You really like her, huh?" Carrie said as she drew a heart. She added initials, C.P. + E. M.= <3. I saw Elizabeth coming so I stomped my foot over it, "Gee Cole, you must hate hearts." Carrie muttered as Elizabeth sat next to me. She leaned her head on my shoulder, I watched the sun going down and I wished. "We should all change." Elizabeth said as the sun went down along with my wish.
"Let's go." I said as I grabbed my bag. Elizabeth grabbed her bag and we walked over to the restrooms again. I locked the door and started shaking the sand out of my hair and stomach. I changed into jeans, tee, and sneakers. I put on my beanie and hoodie before walking out. I noticed Elizabeth wasn't done, so I waited by her door. A couple minutes later, she opened the door and almost whacked me. "I didn't see you there, Cole. Why are you there anyways?" She was a long sleeve floral button up shirt, jeans, and floral vans. Her black hair was up in a messy bun and she had no makeup. Overall she looked beautiful as always, "What's up with the floral?" I asked, "When I go to the beach, I don't like to dress dark." She replied, we walked in silence to the beach. Everyone was surrounded by the fire and was getting the hot dogs and hamburger meat. A grill laid onto of the fire. Trevor and Nick were flipping hamburger patties, Wendy was burning her hot dog, and Carrie was toasting the buns.
"Hey flip the patties while we go change?" Trevor asked Elizabeth. "Me too, Cole flip the buns." Carrie smirked. Wendy was still in her world until Carrie nudged her. "Oh yeah me too, be right back." Wendy said and they all left. We were left alone, "So...." Elizabeth said, "Have any crushes?" I asked, "Besides Cody Simpson, hm.......nope." She said, "Do you have any crushes?" Elizabeth asked, "Maybe." I said, "Well aren't you going to tell?" She asks, "Well I'll tell you, one thing. She's trouble." I said, "Well that doesn't help at all!" She pushed me gently, as she flipped the patties. "Switch?" I asked, "No, I feel manly." She said, "Well I don't want to feel like a girl." She laughed and pulled out her phone. "Smile, Moron." She snapped a photo. I pulled out my phone and said, "Smile, Trouble." "Wait what?" I snapped a photo. I think she knows now, "Wait do yo-" "WE'RE BACK!" Blocked by Trevor. "Good, I hate flipping patties." Elizabeth passed Trevor and Nick the spatulas. Carrie took over.
After making sure the meat was fully cooked, we ate with the occasionally laughs. The best part was s'mores. "I burnt my marshmallow." I looked at Elizabeth's marshmallow and it was burnt black. I rolled my eyes and gave her mine. She sandwiched the chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker. "Want a bite?" She asked, "No it has your germs!" I joked, "Shut up, you basically licked ice cream off my face a week ago." "It was soft served ice cream, it cannot be wasted! It's too good." After I stated my reason, I took a bite out of her s'more. We continued doing that for a hour until Nick went to get a guitar from his car. He came back with a acoustic guitar and sat down. "Elizabeth, wanna sing?" He wiggled his eyebrows. "No it's fine." Now I really wanted to hear Elizabeth sing. "I'll play wish you were here." He tried to convince her.
"C'mon Elizabeth you know you want to sing it." "Fine, I'll do it." She smiled, he started strumming and Elizabeth started harmonizing. "Oh, oh, oh, every night a different city...." She sang with her own twist on it. I never really heard her when she sings in the car since she blasts the songs so loud. "I bet you'll win the contest. You have a better chance than me." A contest? "What contest?" I asked, "Lizzy's in a singing contest." Trevor replied, "Why didn't you tell me, Eli? I would want to know all about this!" I said, "Because I don't want everyone to know." Elizabeth said, "What could've I done?" I asked, "Never mind." She shook her head and pulled out her phone. It was all silent until Trevor's phone rang, "Oh Carrie and Wendy, we have to go now." Trevor said, "Aw but it's not even eight." Wendy whined, "Well tell that to your parents." Trevor said, "Fine, bye Elizabeth, Nick, and Cole." Wendy said as she got up, "Bye Liz, Cole, and Nick." Carrie gave us each a hug and got up.
"Bye Bitch, Cole, and Nick!" Trevor said as they walked to the parking lot. "Well let's clean up." Nick suggested, we started cleaning up and put out the fire before we left. "See you next weekend, Nick." She hugged him bye. "Bye Elizabeth." He said but still wouldn't let her go. "You can let go now." Elizabeth said, he sighed and let go off Elizabeth. Trevor hugs Elizabeth like that but he doesn't wrap his arms around her waist, but Nick does. I was the only one who hugged her like that. Elizabeth waved bye to him as he got in his car. "What's up with the stink face?" "Tomorrow's Monday." I moaned. "I know." She unlocked her car and I helped her put the stuff in the back. We got into the car and she started the car. "So you never did finished your sentence." I reminded her, "Oh it was a stupid guess." She waved it off as she was backing out of the parking space.
"Your guesses aren't stupid, I want to know." I said, "That's very funny, Cole." She said as she drove us out of the beach. "How bad is the guess?" I asked, "It's a embarrassing and stupid guess." She said as we got on the freeway. "Fine if you don't tell me I will go to that singing contest next weekend." I threated her, "You wouldn't." She said, "I will, along with Dana, Will, Gabe, and Dalton." I said, she just turned up the volume of the radio. The entire ride home was just awkward plain silence, when we got to her house we both got out of her car. We walked to my car, I unlocked my car. Elizabeth stared at the floor, "I'll see you next weekend?" I asked, "I don't know, I'm busy." I looked at her, "Really?" She gasped, "Yes, moron! I do have a life." "Just making sure." I smiled, "You're really going next weekend, huh?" She asked, "Unless you tell me your guess." I said.
She stood there for a long time, fiddling with her fingers until her phone rang. "Cole I have to go my mother is calling me." She said, "Please?" She shook her head, "Bye Cole." She waved bye and walked back to her house. I groaned and hit the back of my head on my seat, before waving bye to her. I started my car and back out of her driveway.
I hope that she'll tell me soon.
