chapter nine | one bite
I was making my way through the campus grounds, restraints tightly locked around my neck, and heading towards the gates. Tonight was the night I needed to check up on Kenta, Melody's elder brother, though I had no doubt that he was doing perfectly fine. Well, as fine as being a turned vampire as one could be.
As I was passing the stables, a shadow caught my attention. Upon closer inspection, it was actually the Kiryu boy, sitting on the ground and resting with a pained expression. Has he not been taking the tablets? Does he thing a former human, such as himself, can tough it out of the bloodlust and hunger? Such a stubborn boy. Approaching the boy, I nodded in greeting to the wild white horse that seemed to be guarding him, before crouching down to his level and inspecting him. I was right to assume he was basically starving himself.
"You truly are stubborn, for a Level D." My voice was even and void in tone, soft in volume in an almost alluring way. "If you do not take the blood tablets then you will fall to Level E, do you truly thing that being stubborn and from a renowned hunter clan will save you from this state?" I reached up and brushed at the hair falling over his face.
As I was pulling away, his hand shot up and gripped my wrist in a tight hold. Had I been human, my wrist would surly be bruised or even near broken. He didn't say a word, only glared with his dull coloured eyes that shined with the flame of his soul. How curious.
"You need to feed." My voice was stern, he was not at a level to be considered my master. He was the only vampire here who I did not suffer to stand near. "If not, you will find yourself doing something you'll deeply regret."
He scoffed and threw my wrist, turning away form me. As he did, I caught a whiff of a familiar scent. Ah, so he already has gone too far. "Kurosu Yuki, that's her blood, is it not?" The moment those words left me, my back met the cold cobblestone ground and Kiryu straddled me in place. His hand gripped my neck, only to release from the stinging of the restraint around me reacting to his vampiric self. "No need to be so rough, I am simply stating facts at the moment."
He glared at his hand, that was smoking due to the shock from the restraint, before turning his narrowed gaze down to me, his other hand stuffed into his coat pocket to-I am assuming--take hold of his hunter's gun. "Why are you wearing that?"
"I have business in town regularly, the restraints are the compensation for allowing me to conduct my work. I am not the same as Shiki-san and Tōya-san. Kuran does not trust my kind." My answer flowed out as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Speaking of, kindly get off as I am running late."
After sending me another glare, Kiryu got off and I stood up on my own. Brushing the dirt off of my clothes, my favourite oversized hoodie now covered in dust and dirt, I started walking. I didn't bother questioning the hunter boy when he start following after me. There was no point, and it was not like I was keeping my work a secret, just no one bothered to ask for details.
