"My help? Why?"
"Sit I have to fill you in on all the shit that's gone down."
I moved to sit on the couch across from Aedon. I sat down with a plop and crossed my arms over my chest. Sweat dripped down my back. Was it getting hotter in here?
"Do you believe in the supernatural Alexandra?"
"You mean like vampires and werewolves?"
He shook his head.
"Not exactly. I mean angels."
I huffed a breathy laugh.
"You've gotta be messing with me right now."
"No I'm very serious right now."
"That's... that's not possible."
"How can you be so clueless. Alexandra have you never noticed how sometimes you can be invisible to people... even your own friends."
I stared into his blue eyes. They moved taking in every feature on my face, waiting for my reaction.
I thought back on all the times that August, Jessie, and Lorelai just seemed to leave me out, but Kohl. Kohl was always there. He never forgot about me.
"Not to Kohl," I whispered.
"That man could never forget you but that's not the point. The point is that that is a sign that your gifts are getting stronger."
"What gifts?"
"Ugh Alexandra. Stop with the questions. Let me explain everything and then you can ask all your questions."
I shake my head in acceptance.
"The world is made up of good people and bad people. You know that. What you don't know is that the driving force behind those people are us, the angels."
My face falls half in confusion and half in disbelief. Angels aren't real... or at least I didn't think they were.
"There are light and dark angels and different types of each. You, Alexandra are both, half light and half dark. Your power is greater than any we have ever seen. You are special in that right."
He looks at me expectantly, waiting for my response to his little lesson. I don't know what to say. It sounds fake. There's no way I am the most powerful person...er... angel in the world.
"I don't think you have the right person."
I start to get up but am pushed back down. My head jerks up, shocked. Aedon hasn't moved. What the fuck. He... he didn't move. It felt like a hand pushed me back down. How?
"Alexandra you are special. Everything will be explained in more detail if you come with me."
"No. Fuck no. I'm not going anywhere with you."
Who the hell does he think he is. I'm not stupid. I'm not going anywhere with him. I try to stand and walk away again. Same thing happens. Invisible hands push me back down. This time even harder. My head falls backwards snapping my neck. The pain tingles from my shoulders to the base of my head. I reach up and rub it with my hand.
"Now darling why are you trying to leave."
"What the fuck do you want asshole."
"Why you of course, and I always get what I want."
Fuck! This isn't going to end well. Ok Lex think. Fucking think. The stairs were closer to him. I wouldn't be able to get there without him reaching me. I could jump the balcony. It was a two story drop. I don't know if I'd make it but it's the only shot I've got.
"Ok. I'll come with you."
"Great!"
He gets up and walks over to the stairs. As his back is turned I get up and walk over to the railing of our private balcony. I can see August, Jessie, and Lorelai all dancing on the floor. Kohl is brooding by the bar with a blonde, who looks to be hitting on him. He doesn't acknowledge her.
The railing is low enough for me to jump. I back up and take a short running start. Aedon doesn't notice what I'm doing in time. My feet leave the ground, air flying by. I clear the railing and fall fast. I speed up in the fall. The ground gets closer and closer and closer. It's only a few feet away now. I brace myself for impact. My knees are bent and ready to roll. In the background I can hear Aedon yell. I'm not sure what he said though.
I land seconds later. The impact rattling through my body. My knees buckle and I fall into a forward roll to break the fall. I roll onto my back with a thud. My heels not being able to handle the jump. I take them off holding them by the heel and sprint as fast as I can to the stairs we entered through.
The people entering the push up against the wall. Only after I knocked two of them down though. I turn to see if Aedon is following me. He is. He looks annoyed. Not angry. That's odd.
I hit something hard stopping me in my tracks. My pulse quickens. I raise my eyes to meet the bouncers. He covered in tattoos and piercings. My eyes trace down to his large pecs and bulging biceps. He's huge. My pupil enlarge. Fear coursing through my body not at the bouncer but at Aedon behind me and what he might do to me.
"Are you ok little lady?" the bouncer asks. His voice oddly soft for such a burly man.
"Oh uh yea fine." I continuously turn and look behind me. Aedon is catching up. An annoyed smirk forming on his face. He knows he's got me. There no where to hide. I need to go now.
"You sure you're ok little lady? You don't look ok."
"I fine!" I snap. My voice deepening and growing hoarse. I try to slide around him but he throws out a hand placing it gently on my shoulder.
"Let me hail you a cab little lady. You shouldn't be out here all alone."
At this point I know that Aedon is close to me. I turn my head to see him right behind me. I let out a yelp. The bouncer looked down at me concerned. My eyes slid back and forth from the bouncer to Aedon. He didn't seem to notice Aedon. What the fuck!
"They can't see me Alexandra."
The way he slurred my name melodically made me shiver. The bouncer looked down at me. "Did you drink too much little lady? It's the middle of summer, you shouldn't be shivering like that when it's 100 degrees." I shook my head no which resulted in a chuckle from him.
He removed his arm from around my shoulders and starts waving down a cab. Aedon takes his chance and wraps his arm around me covering the same place the bouncer's arm was. My breathing fastens to a point of discomfort.
"What are you doing?" I say under my breath. I don't want the bouncer or anyone waiting to get into Club Starlight thinking I'm crazy.
"I'm taking you with me Alexandra. We're going to the keep."
