The knock on the ajar bedroom door caught Lindsey's attention. He looked over his shoulder and saw Alice coming in. They shared a smile as she closed the door.
"Are you nervous?"
"You have no idea." Lindsey answered honestly. "I could barely sleep last night, woke up before 6 am."
"Mom's pretending to be fine, but she's a wreck too." Somehow knowing that, made Lindsey feel a bit better. "However, for once, I think she won't be late. All the nervous energy was put to good use, she's almost ready."
"Would you say that I'm ready?" Lindsey asked, allowing Alice to get a good look.
Approaching him, Alice straightened his tie and smoothed out his shirt. "You're ready."
"I've never been good with ties." He smiled. Checking the time, Lindsey said. "I guess, I better get out there."
They didn't want a big event. They had been doing everything for the whole world to witness most of their lives. They wanted their wedding to be small and private. Walking out into the back garden, Lindsey smiled at the guests, who were already seated, among which were Mick, John and Christine, Stevie's backup singers, her brother and niece, Lindsey's children, Sara and Alice were still with Stevie. Don had been invited as well and he gladly showed up. Kristen hadn't received an invitation nor had she expected to.
"The day is finally here." Christine smiled at Lindsey, fixing his tie once more.
"Yeah, still feels like a dream."
"Just take a deep breath, there can't possibly be any more obstacles in your way. Unless, Stevie decides to become a runaway bride." Chris added with a laugh, seeing Lindsey's eyes widen. "Kidding! Christ, Buckingham. Relax."
With one more quick pep talk from Mick, Lindsey clasped his hands in front of him, patiently awaiting Stevie to come outside. They got engaged shortly after Christmas and Stevie told him right away that she didn't want to wait. Fast forward less than three months, there he was, unable to contain his excitement of see his blushing bride.
Only moments later, with Sara on one side and Alice on the other, Stevie showed up at last and Lindsey felt his whole body relax. He grinned widely at her and she smiled back at him. Waddy, Stevie's longtime musical partner, was quietly playing the melody of Landslide as she walked down the short aisle, her daughters by her side.
Lindsey couldn't care less that the ceremony had barely begun, no words had been spoken yet, when he slid his arm around Stevie's waist and kissed her.
"I don't think you were supposed to do that now." Stevie whispered and Lindsey just shrugged.
"I doubt anyone would try and stop me if I were to do it again." Lindsey said, pressing his forehead to hers for a brief moment, before the officiant loudly cleared his throat, separating the two.
"Dearly beloved..."
Lindsey looked down for a second, feeling Stevie squeeze his hand, realizing it wasn't just a beautiful dream. At last, all of those dreams were becoming their reality.
