"Let me fluff your pillow."
"Steph, you have already." Lindsey stopped Stevie, gently grasping her hand in his. "Like ten times."
"I just want you to be comfortable." Stevie said, sitting beside Lindsey on his bed.
"I am. I'm home, that's really enough for me." He smiled, lacing his fingers through hers. "I'm doing much better, Stevie, thank you for taking such good care of me."
"It's nothing." She shrugged it off. "I mean, all I did, while you were in hospital, was visit and sit with you for a while."
"Well, that's a lot more than anyone else has done. It's one thing to send flowers or give me a call, but you chose to spend your time with me." Lindsey felt truly grateful. Just before his accident, he wondered if he'd even see Stevie again. Lifting their joined hands up to his lips, he kissed her knuckles and she smiled, cocking her head to one side more, looking at him lovingly.
"Why'd you choose to stay in this apartment? I thought, you'd go crazy in a week or two without your home studio." Stevie asked, changing the subject.
"I don't know." Lindsey shrugged his shoulders. "I guess, I thought if I bought a house, it'd feel too big for just me, too empty."
The smile on her face faded. "That's exactly how I feel. I mean, the house is gorgeous, it's just... I still haven't fully unpacked. I kind of have everything just lying around."
"Do you have a spare guestroom?" Lindsey joked to which Stevie weakly smiled. They had a lot of time on their hands, when she came to see him at the hospital, yet they both avoided diving in too deep into their problems. However, every time Lindsey said something like he just did, a glimmer of hope arose in Stevie's heart.
"We need to get you some groceries. I'll ask Karen to bring over some food for you." Again, Stevie jumped to another topic, unwilling to dwell for too long. "Although, you can't exactly move about and cook for yourself." She wondered aloud. "I guess, I will have to be around you 24/7."
"You don't see me complaining, do you?" Lindsey smirked. "Those nurses at the hospital have nothing on you."
"Well, don't start dreaming about me in any sort of outfit." Stevie gave him a look and Lindsey laughed. "Right. Don's going to drop Alice off at mine soon, I should probably get going." She said, yet remained seated.
"Say hello to her for me." Lindsey asked and Stevie nodded her head, indicating she will.
"Anything else I can do for you, before Karen gets here?"
"I think, I'm good. Will should be coming over soon enough. I'm sure he's not too excited about having to stay with me, but..." Lindsey trailed off, shrugging.
"Come on, Will's a good kid. He cares about you, even if he doesn't really show it. He's a boy after all."
"Ha! Try telling that to his face." Lindsey rolled his eyes. "He's a man now."
Stevie chuckled, knowing exactly what Lindsey meant. She remembered Will not being too happy, when she used to call him a boy a couple of years ago, surely, he wouldn't be now either.
"Promise, you'll call if you need anything?" Stevie asked Lindsey yet again as she got up to leave.
"I promise." Lindsey repeated for the nth time with a heavy sigh.
"Okay. I'll come over tomorrow." She said, bending over to kiss the top of his curls. She didn't know, what made her do it exactly, but it felt completely natural.
Lindsey inhaled her perfume and closed his eyes briefly. They'd been spending a lot of time together lately, but they were rarely that close to each other physically. Before Stevie could pull too far away, he touched her neck with the palm of his hand, causing her to look down at him. His hand moved upwards, sneaking its way into her hair. Their eyes locked, neither made any sort of move.
Lindsey sighed in frustration, when the ringing of Stevie's phone completely ruined whatever that was going on between them in that moment.
"It's Karen." Stevie gave an apologetic smile.
