Their most recent case involved a serial killer that posed as a photographer at weddings. He targeted women and almost always left the camera behind. Despite the fact that they couldn't find any fingerprints or murder weapons, they had a narrowed down a few suspects.
"My bet is on this guy," Haru told Daisuke, "Ishida Itaru, male, age 28. Dark blue hair, blue eyes. It says here that he was dumped by his ex-girlfriend, Amamiya Rin, about 2 months ago, which was when the murders started happening. It means he has a motive and he fits the time table."
"I see," Daisuke responded and tapped on his glasses, "HEUSC. Give me a detailed background of Ishida Itaru."
"Ishida Itaru. Professional wedding photographer. Blood type AB. Natural hair color, black. Past lovers: Amamiya Rin, Hitaru Kosuke, Taru Emma. Lived in an abusive household. Parents: Ishida Sen, Ishida Sakura-"
"Abusive parents. Most serial killers have had a traumatic childhood." Haru mumbled, "How many months ago did he dye his hair?"
"2 months ago, Mr. Katou."
"Thanks, HEUSC." Haru nodded, "We should investigate the crime scene more. I'm set that this Ishida guy is the killer but we need more evidence."
Daisuke smirked, "Yes, of course. No need to worry, I have the perfect plan."
Haru perked up at that, "Oh, what is it?"
"Marry me."
"... What!?"
The whole office watched in awe as Daisuke pulled a box from his pocket and knelt, opening the box to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. Haru stared in shock as Saeki squealed in the background.
Kamei seemed equally as excited, slapping Teppei in the back. The gambler grumbled before slipping a few yen into the blonde's hands.
"Oi, oi!" Haru blushed, "What the hell is this!?"
"In order to investigate this further, let's have a wedding. I already have the papers ready. The venue will be at the Kambe Residence, to be sure of your safety."
"Wow, so romantic." Kamei teased in the background. Without hesitation, Haru punched him in the stomach.
"Why didn't you talk to me about it first!?" Haru shrieked, "I'm your partner, idiot!"
"I see, that's a yes." Daisuke stood up and slipped the ring into Haru's hand, "No need to buy me a ring. I have it prepared. The wedding will be tomorrow."
"Wha- tomorrow!?"
Daisuke ignored him and turned to the rest of their co-workers, "You are all invited."
The office erupted im cheers as Haru stared at the ring on his finger. It was clearly well made, the detailed little patterns on the rose gold band, the shining beauty of the diamond and the heaviness of it on Haru's finger. Though it was just for a mission, Haru couldn't help but yearn for it to be real.
It's fake, right? It's not like Daisuke really meant anything by it.
Cho-san tapped Kambe's shoulder, "Let's talk outside."
Daisuke recognized what this was. Haru was like his son, in a way. So it was probably disrespectful to not ask for his blessing.
Once they were outside, Cho lit a cigarette. "You know, Kambe. This isn't how you normally propose."
"Is it too late to ask for your blessing?"
Cho shrugged, "Come clean to Katou and treat him right is all I can ask. He clearly feels the same about you. For all his stuttering and blushing, he didn't say no."
