Prompt: lies

Pairing: Hotwings (Dabi x Hawks)

TW: hospital, major manga spoiling, well not really, angst

Dabi always hated the sound of beeping.

It reminded him of a past yet unfolded.

He watches Hawks carefully from the windowsill. The hero shifts about on the bed, trying to find comfortable position.

A useless attempt, really.

Dabi didn't know why he was sitting here. On his way over he had planned to finish the poor mans suffering, but now he can't bring himself to.

After Shigaraki was defeated and taken into custody, Dabi decided spending his night here instead of freeing his boss would clear his mind.

Hawks's body now lay limp on the bed, sleeping, Dabi presumes. He's hooked up to multiple machines Dabi can't name, but are familiar with. Hawks's red wings are bandaged, matching the rest of his body.

"I know you're here, Dabi. I know you too well. I had the doctor keep the window open."

Raspy.

It's fucking sexy, the way his voice is raspy, matching Dabi's.

It's also terrifying.

Dabi sighs, jumping from the windowsill.

"Darn, I guess I'll have to kill you. You know too much," he sarcastically replies.

Hawks rolls his eyes.

"You tried that once, didn't you? I don't think it worked however, class 1-A's students are persistent, it seems."

"Luck is on your side. Those kids will be great heroes."

Hawks shifted in the dark space, probably annoyed by the bandages.

"Y'know, I don't blame you for beating me up, it's what I deserved. I killed one of your friends."

"I'm sorry you have to stay here," he averts, silently wishing he didn't have to hear Hawks blaming himself for what Dabi did to him.

What he said was a lie. Truthfully, the HC headquarters is one of the safest places to be, but Dabi could care less if Hawks was in a hospital because of him.

He thinks, at least.

"How're the nurses?" He asks, knowing the answer.

"Too touchy, like, when they take vitals and shit, they touch everywhere I don't remember being able to take vitals from my stomach."

Dabi scoffs, he's seen how the nurses behave with patients.

It's not pretty.

"Are you staying for long?" Hawks asks, hopeful.

Dabi shakes his head, eyes darting around the plain white room.

"I hate places like this, it makes my skin crawl," he answers.

A calming pause is what he receives in return.

"Good luck stealing Shiggy back, who knows how guarded that place is," Hawks whispers, though Dabi can hear the pain in his voice.

Dabi snorts, fingers passing a small flame.

"I should go try and save my boss, shouldn't I?"

Hawks shakes his head, "You could try and change your life around, be a hero. You don't have to listen to Shigaraki or do what he says." It almost sounds like a plea.

Dabi wishes he could say yes.

"That's not the life for me, I don't want to talk about it," he whispers instead.

"But it could be. You would get to spend more time with me! And-."

Dabi stands, walking over to the bed, his eyes meet Hawks.

"I chose to be a villain to destroy Endeavor, whence he is dead I might think about your offer. Is that a sufficient enough answer for you?"

Hawks shakes his head.

"Thinks about it on your way. For me?"

It's almost like Dabi's put in a trance by the cute, pleading eyes beating up at him.

"Fine."

"Yay!" Hawks smiles brightly through in this hands up with a small "ow".

"You're insane. Have a nice night, I'll probably stop by sometime," Dabi remarks.

"I hope you do, goodnight, Dabi."

His pace is fast as he walks to the window, slipping out.

"I wish he would stop lying to himself," he can faintly hear Hawks whisper.

Yeah, Dabi does too.

If only.
