-Matty's POV
The memory of Carter at church last night came to mind, he seemed distant; close and yet so far away. Like he didn't want to be around me.
I sighed and cringed as the alarm on my phone went off. Turning it off I sat up, rubbing my eyes with my hands in a fist.
I thought telling him I didn't mean to kiss him, would make him not act so tense. But, he was just different, and I have the right to know why he was acting this way, I am his best friend.
I pushed out of bed and picked out a random outfit, black
t-shirt, blue jeans and my black and white lettermen's jacket. Grabbing my glasses from my night stand, leaving my room I quickly made it down stairs by sliding down the banister. Walking to the dinning room to greet the family.
The dinning room was the same size as the living on the other side of the entry hall, small but big. A huge bay window gave us a snowy view outside, giving in light to see. The walls were white plastered with framed pictures of different kind of flowers. Apparently its not a mothers touch without flowers.
"Morning, sport." Dad said, not bothering to look away from the morning newspaper.
"Morning." I sat next to Kale; who was to busy on her phone to notice me. I always wondered why she choose to ignore people, just never asked. I think its just a normal teen girl thing, she was simple. Always wore dark clothes, like now: A dark purple shirt with black jeans.
"Alright pancakes are done. Kale put your phone away." Mom laid the plate in the middle of the wooden dinning table.
"Fine." She turned the phone off, setting it down.
The whole time, we ate in silence. The eeriness of metal hitting glass was all you could hear through out the whole house.
The door bell rang, me and Kale both stood up.
"That would be, Shay and Carter. We better go." Kale nodded in agreement as she grabbed her phone. Mom and Dad both nodded, waving goodbye. Me and Kale both hated being home, there was nothing about us that made us a real family and everyone noticed.
Grabbing my backpack I ran out the door, bumping into Carter, pushing him slightly causing him to almost fall.
"Wow.." I Grabbed him by the waist with both arms with his holding tightly to the front of my jacket.
Was he always this small, short, and weak?
He pulled away. "Thanks.." his face turned a pinch of pink with red. Is he getting a cold? He looks like he's sick...
Walking to the car I saw Shay and her normal self; light curled black hair a gray sweater vest leather coat, and black jeans. Kale was already buckled in and warm in the black Ford, in front. I eyed her with evil, only causing her to just smiled giving me a wink. I sat in the back with Carter to my right. Shay started driving down the long road. It usually took awhile to get to school since it was on the other side of town, and the icy roads don't help with speed.
Turning down the blasted radio of hard rock, Shay clears her throat, looking at us in the rear view mirror.
I looked at her then at Carter, who was slightly shaking his head with a angry expression. Before I could ask what was going on, Kale opened her big mouth.
"So are you guys like dating now? Or is it a friends with benefits type of thing?" My mouth shot open, my heart stopped beating, I was ready to kill over.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER?!
"Er...Uh-" Carter was speechless, looking back at him his face was reder then a tomato. He quickly covered his face with his hands, hiding from me.
I clinched my jaw, throwing my hands in the air, looking at Kale. She just smiled and giggled, as if she just did a good thing.
As soon as we pulled into the parking lot off the school, Carter fled from the car. Running inside without looking back.
"Carter! Wait! I'm gonna get you for this Kale." I ran after him, opening the glass doors, running down the large hall filled with a sea of people, pushing and shoving I came to a clearing in the hall, where I ran into the last person I wanted to see.
"Hey Matt!" Victoria Marshell, the blonde bitch of the year, also playing Juliet in the play. "Are you coming to practice after school?"
"Y-Yeah." I didn't look at her, I was to busy looking around, trying to find a trace of Carter.
"Matt? Are you there, earth to Matt." She lingered the sound of my name, her perfume filled my nose, making it burn.
Me, Carter and Shay have known Victoria since middle school, she never changed she was the same stuck-up bitch she's always been.
God, please help me.
The bell rang and everyone cleared out. I ignored anything Victoria was saying and just walked away from her, waving goodbye. I mumbled thank you as I started to run again to my locker, grabbing my books. If there was one place Carter would be, it would be first period, he's not one to skip school. Or do anything bad for that matter.
I made it to class before the last bell rang. Jogging to my seat in the back, to see if he was there but Carter wasn't. I quickly got my phone from my pocket keeping it hided in my lap.
--
Matty: Carter? Where are you? I swear Kale didn't mean what she said. Please answer me.
--
"Hey, you OK?" I shot my head to in front of me, James Gilbert; The cool guy type, black hair, dark drown eyes that made the girls squeal and faint. He was one of my close friends from grade school, I wasn't alone when it came to parents forcing you into a sport. We're both one of the top fighter on the boxing team for the school.
He looked at me with a raised brow and a interested gaze, waiting for my answer.
"Yeah I-."
"Gentlemen! Would it be alright if I started class, I mean if its OK with you." Mr.Marklet announced. All eyes were on us.
James smiled, and nodded his head, keeping it cool. "Absolutely Mr.Marklet!"
"Thank you, boys." Taking a deep breath I looked at James with widened eyes as we faced back to front.
Science finally ended but still I got nothing back no matter how many times I messaged Carter, or called him between classes, nothing.
Lunch time rolled around and no one has seen Carter for the past four periods. I didn't feel like eating, so I mindlessly walked through the halls, skipping through the songs on my phone a classical symphony came on helping me realize I was looking in all the wrong places. I ran down several hallways, to the music room.
Making it to the music-note covered door, I peeked through the long window on the door. Not only to find Carter but Shay too, locking lips together
I widened my eyes, in shock. I backed away laughing and softly smiled, but it quickly went away as it came. I felt empty inside, nothing was there. I was...I don't what I was, I just have this feeling of, envy? Replacement?... Jealousy? I laughed at myself and walked away making it to the main hall.
I saw James standing outside the cafeteria door, he raised a hand calling me over with a smile. I waved back. I looked at the music door and shock my head in disbelief of what I was feeling, and walked away.
